Hi folks, could someone with a 156 tell me if there is a way of diabling the 'beeeeeeps' whe you enable and disable the alarm.

It emits two long bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeps which are a bit obtrustive when I return home during the early hours. I seem to remember that my last 156 was quiet..

Any ideas? The manual isn't clear at all.

There must be, mine doesn't do it. (At least, I'm assuming the alarm hasn't been disabled, the book says you can't for UK model cars).

I reckon it must be possible - my GTV and my brother in law's GTV were delivered within 2 weeks of one another. Mine beeps, his doesn't...

{edited to add:} er, assuming they're using the same alarm system across the board! (Think mine's a Meta under the AR logos)

hmm, after reading the book, it would seem that if it beeps twice like mine does, then there is a problem with the alarm/locking and must be taken to a dealer.

Don't you love alfa electrics.

Faulty alarm.....? Thats sorted then!
Does anyone know how to do it though. My 147 does a single 'beep on open and double on close. I'd like to disable the sound on close.
Clues? Or is this just a bad idea?

leave 'em alone john. The black arts of alfa electrics should never be played with.

Reminds me of a particularly electrically enthusiastic 33 cloverleaf I had. Whilst bombing along the motorway generally returning from leave in the small hours, the cheese board 'computer' would illuminate every single warning message including engine failure. This would be remedied by booting the bottom left hand side of the transmission tunnel which generally caused the main beams to flicker and then go out for a few seconds.

Got to love 'em.

Mike, its always beeped twice on locking and on its first service I asked the dealer if it was correct. They were adament that its all OK and its been to 3 different dealers over the time I've owned it and none have remarked on it.
PS Have got letter back from DVLA saying it isn't mine anymore and the 3 speeding tickets will be forwarded to the new owner ;-)

Cheers Jim,
hope the porker is doing well, thanks for the update re the alarm. I have given up years ago trying to unfathom italian electrics.

Please tell me you are joking about the speeding tickets.

Course I'm joking, its a car we all drive like a saint, hence why I rarely got more than 40MPG!
Hope you're still enjoying it.
Yup Porker is fine, booked in next week for belts to be done cos I haven't got the time. Also little oil leak from the belt area and they'll investigate that as well. Oil consumption is a bit horrendous especially if driven at m/way speeds as I do. Like 450Miles per litre. Been advised to go to heavier oil like 15/50 rather than 10/40.

PS How do you put Icons in a post?

Phew, had me worried there Jim.

That's a lot of oil to be sucking....mine so far hasn't used a drop in 3000 miles, they are not known for their oil usage. I use 10/40 too...

I reckon a seal has popped somewhere, maybe the one at the back of the rocker cover, or maybe the rocker gasket itself. Mine leaked like a bstard from the rocker gasket until I changed it. Come to think of it, it was using a hell of a lot of oil prior to changing the gasket....dribbled all over the back of the exhaust manifold too so it smoked a bit.....all sorted now though.

Icons....go to the 'smiles legend' just to the left of your post and you will see a colon, some words, then another colon. Ie. translates to colonnutscolon....But if you are a bit of a saddo like me then you end up knowing them.
