Alfa 159 Sportwagen- what to look out for
Discussion
Front suspension clunks and wheel alignment - never use cheap Ebay suspension components as they don't last. TRW only
Clogged EGR valve
Missing swirl flaps
Rusty front subframe
Clutch wear
Faded headlamp / foglamp reflector glass
Generally, if looked after, the 1.9 Jtd lump is extremely reliable - I have the same in my Alfa GT and its currently on 256,000 miles and it never gets a drop of oil between services.
This engine responds extremely well to a remap - easy 170bhp and plenty of torque. It'll finish off a tired clutch though, so be careful

Had mine till 180k on the clock failed on the rusted subframe. Not the best economical engine compared to my old passat tdi but not the worst engine. Zero feel through the steering wheel (had front puncture didn't know for 10 miles) but your not buying it for handling! I bought it for the looks, just loved the front view!
Add gearbox bearing failure to the list. The General Motors M32 manual gearbox used is also in Vauxhalls, Fiats, and Alfa's, and they all have the same problem. A mate has one, and his started to rumble, and got it rebuild a few days later as it was worried it was going to fail and leave him car less and unable to get to work.
I can look how many miles when it started failing, as I have it on my drive at the moment as I am sorting out a few things so he can sell it (forced sale, wife says it isn't practical for 2 young children - I'm not on the wife's side on this). It's not mint if that is what you are after, but he will part with it for a fair price for the miles/condition - PM me if you are interested.
