GTV alarm issues
Discussion
The alarm on my 1999 GTV V6 is causing problems. It's not making a noise but is flashing the hazards for a couple of minutes - that's once I have started it after dealing with the battery drain. I had just the same problem with an Elan M100, the cure for that was to disable the alarm. Does anyone know if that is that an easy fix for the 916?
is it the meta alarm ?
most alfas of the period do weird things following low battery or jump starting etc. car thinks it's being tampered with (alarm has its own battery) and does this type of thing until it's told otherwise.
have a root around in the void under the gear lever gaiter and you should find the control box. unplugging it won't trigger the immobiliser, that;s turned on and off by the key.
it should recycle itself and reset through usage; there is a way to force a reset using the fob but i cant remember. on my gtv it's lock/unlock x3 (or maybe more) but on my fiat coupe it seems to sort itself out after just one cycle
pre covid, abacus still offered a postal refurb service, including new fobs, should it be required for yours
