I’m now thinking it would be a good idea to swop my Boxster gts for one of these and close the circle from my first car of an alfetta 1.8 to one of these to keep.

I got one in December with exhaust, really pleased with looks and sound.

I also put 20's on and the carbon mirror caps off the GTA.
That's a lovely car Fixer. Did you get to do an exhaust comparison before buying the Akra, or did you just have to have it? Still curious to know how much better it is.

Since starting this thread I am moving more towards ordering an MY21. The only thing that could sway me off it now is a new M5 Competition.

It is a factory order only on the Akrapovic so no comparison possible, I can confirm it makes a great sound and looks great with the carbon covers.

Anyone know what the differences are between MY20 and MY21 std spec apart from leather wrapped gear shifter ?
Cheers, Steve

Very little Steve. A reduction in CO2 and some new heritage colours are about it as far as I know.

Ok Cheers Mondie

I sold my 335d during this lockdown as simply not using a car, but once things start to open up the QF is on my very short list though I haven’t even sat in one yet. Just can’t decide, new or nearly new. I can see a few MY21 arriving in the next month or so and there are already 1 or 2 pre registered MY20 cars around.

Anyone know if AR have made a common sense decision to allow those baffles to be opened in anything other than Race mode given there seems to be a lot of after market customer requirements for it !!

Yes, they now open in Dynamic too but I have read conflicting opinions on whether the exhaust sound still differs between Race and Dynamic for reasons I am unsure of.

Race mode also has overboost which may explain the different sound people have reported. Torque is also limited in first and second unless you’re in Race

Akrapovic is louder but no more character imo. Don't forget the carbon fiber roof is now a paid for option which is a shame as the standard spec has always been superior to the BMW but the buying public weren't that excited about it, I was. The body panel and weight configuration were so pure this small retrograde move, the balance, not pivotally but by degree dilute the essence. Ok the essence is a sports saloon but the quintessential sports saloon.

Dezbo - Yes, I think you are right about the overboost, I remember that being mentioned a few times in my reading/watching smile

Jaroon - good post thanks. I will be ordering the carbon roof and Akra exhaust. How much louder is it, I have had one dealer estimate 10%, obviously that pretty subjective but wondered how you would rate it.

I am edging closer to ordering a car next month. I had my heart set on Montreal Green but am swaying a little and also considering black. The QF looks stunning in black, when clean and shiny, which in North Wales may not be too often!

Cheers

Black looks great......for a day ! The Beemer was in black, loved the look, especially the day it was ceramic coated.......looked dirty for the remainder of the 3 years I had it except for immediately after cleaning ??. Never again. I won’t have another black car I don’t think, though it’s hard to beat the look when it’s shiny like the QF above. Beautiful.

I would say 10% is a bit conservative, 15% maybe but not 20. All personal preference but I think the Akra leans and no more than that but leans towards a more agricultural sound, which makes me sound like I'm more negative than I am. I think the exhaust needs more volume, about what the Akra offers but I want the exact sound of the standard exhaust just louder. Resonator delete with cross pipe doesn't achieve this. I've looked at straight pipes for the middle section but can't find an example or anyone with this configuration.

Deep pockets for the carbon roof plus Akra but good on you, with that kind of out lay you don't want "what if" moments. Just been for a run for the batteries health smile. Dry with coolish ambient conditions, l did my preferred exuberant route twice, sublime.

That's encouraging on the exhaust, thanks. I have seen a good Youtube clip of a fellow in the US fitting an X pipe for a bit more noise and getting just that. If I go ahead I will be not be holding back on my ideal spec, which means most options including Sparcos but not carbon brakes.

Great to see you enjoying yours smile

Nothing too "extra" as it's already a special car & by far the most special car I'll ever have had ..... apart from Caterham ;-)
Comp Red/Yellow Calipers, Black with red stitching, Sports steering wheel, Driver Assistance Pack, Harmon Kardon

I'm calling in all my brownie points, chips and "nice guy" deals with my wife. In fact, when lockdown is over, I don't think I'm allowed out to play :-) LOL

Pretty much the spec I want but I’ll be buying a used towards the end of the year. Did you finance it Steve? If so would you mind sharing details?

Great spec Steve. I’m sure it’ll be stunning. Worth every shopping trip, rom com on telly on Saturday night and hour spent ironing. smile
