My JTD sounds like a lorry at idle after the engine is warmed up.
Not sure if it has always been like that, but lately it sounds literally like a pikey spec diesel transit.

Under load it's ok. There are no 'nasty' noises where it would seem something has come off.

I would be interested to hear of other experiences of alfa diesels.

It completely drowned out a BMW diesel and my old banger today. :yikes:

You bought it then Matt, excellent choice. Must admit I really like mine. Which for me, is amazing looking at my history with cars.

Glad it's a generic thing rather than just mine.

Mine would be much louder than the BMW on tickover too, they are very quiet.

It's much the same, volume wise, as my dads Octavia, VAG unit, so I'm not complaining. Much smoother than the Octavia when running though, 5cldr beets 4 hands down.

BP ultimate diesel is supposed (according to BP.com) to make your engine run quieter. I've just put a tankful off the stuff and mpg is up about 10% in the first 50 miles. Hopefully it'll have an effect on the idle noise after a few more 50 mile motorway runs.

If it does I'll let you know.
