Hi All,

I've just been looking for a very faint missfire / flat spot on my wife's 156. Unfortunately, I think I might have found it! I took the coil assembly off and decided to clean the rubber shrouds that go between the coils and the plugs. To my horror, the first one I pulled off snapped (just where the little spring clip holds it on to the stud in the end of the coil). Inside was a load of greenish powder. The same happened with the next one I pulled off but the other two were fine (and, interestingly, nice and clean and not full of greenish powder)! Just as I was starting to feel proud of myself, I noticed (to even more horror than before!) that 3 (!) of the coils were cracked. Not just teensy little cracks where the spark might "track" - no sir, these were whopping great monster cracks big enough to get a finger nail into! Oddly, they weren't in the "towers" that the rubber shrouds push on to, they were actually in the main body of the coil housing.

So, my question is: Would I be wasting my time trying to fill the cracks with "Araldite" (or similar)? If so, can anyone recommend a good source of cheap ignition coils? If I end up going to a breaker, are they the same as the 2.0 coils (or anything else?) I'll phone my local dealer on Monday for a price but as "PowerAlfa" are selling them for £117 each online, I'm not expecting a pleasant surprise!
