Abarth 595s do they get quicker with time...
Discussion
When I saw your post earlier I thought it was a bit low. So in the interests of science I took my car out for a blast this morning - had to make sure the engine was warm. My car has 4,200 miles on the clock.
My car is essentially the same as yours, and boosts right over to the red line on the gauge. It’s boosting at 1 bar at 3,500 rpm in second gear, hoof it further and it spins right round to the red. All experiments done ins Sports mode.
I’m afraid I don’t know enough about the mechanicals of these things to suggest what the problem might be, other than (as you have done) check the hoses for splits/not being attached.
I don’t know if you do Facebook but there is a great Abarth Owners group over there, where you might get some pointers.
Suffice it to say, it doesn’t sound like all is well with your car at the moment. I recall yours is a new car so maybe a trip back to the dealer is in order…depending where you bought it of course. Arnold Shark for example don’t seem that clued up if what I read on the internet is to be believed, whereas places like Petch in York are very well thought of.

Ok….some additional thoughts fro you Hugo.
I’ve been out today to an Abarth meet and mentioned your problem to see if anyone had words of wisdom.
The consensus was it should definitely be boosting to 1.6 so something isn’t right.
The wisdom came down to split or fallen off hose or possibly a failed boost actuator. This is not an unknown problem and with a new car is a warranty fix.
It was mentioned that the boost gauge itself is not always reliable or accurate but with 180 BHP on tap the car shouldn’t feel sluggish at all so it is more likely to be hose or boost actuator related.
I’m sure there are other less common/more obscure causes but the main culprits are as mentioned above.
Hope this helps

Yup sport mode. It does that deep throated bellow in 2nd but just doesn't feel quick for a 180bhp 1 ton car.
That’s because they’re not that quick. 0-60mph is around 6.7sec from memory. The fun is in the corners where the small size should help keep a bit more speed. Gassing Station | Alfa Romeo, Fiat & Lancia | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
