Personally I think it emphasises Alfa's Italian cool looks
It emphasises Alfa is perverse and loves playing jokes on its customers. And good looking as that Alfa is in your pic, I bet the placing of the plate under the bumper is illegal nowadays, if not impossible on today's low-ride designs.
All of which is of course irrelevant. I was simply demonstrating that we are all entitled to an opinion which may differ from yours!

Funny enough i was in a meeting with a guy from Alfa UK yesterday afternoon, seems they're going full circle again when it comes to dealer appointments. I pointed out that for the last 15 years they've had people who don't appreciate the brand for what it is and the customer service is non-existant. He was rather keen to point out that they are looking for big dealers again to get the sufficient numbers into the market place.

This to me seems the totally wrong direction to go in, why don't they have "owner/drivers" running the Alfa Romeo delaerships that actually give a shit about the product.

Totally agree with your post. I've owned alfa romeos over 9 years...the cars are beautiful; with my first one had over 5 years not a single problem. However, with my 2nd one did have many problems and the dealerships were very poor, particularly the After Sales and service. This is what is letting Alfa Romeo down big time. There was a very poor Alfa Romeo dealership in my area..fortunately it's closed down and new dealership has opened, with new staff (mostly recruited from Jaguar dealerships). They've called me up for a test drive of the new 159 ...so lets see. I sincerely hope they will offer a better customer service and understand the heart of an alfa romeo customer....the car is the life and soul...and if it goes wrong, if the engine stopping beating and the notes are dying...the heart needs to be fixed.........

I have had 4 x Alfas over the years, two 164 3.0 V6s, one of which I put 132,000 faultless miles on and two Spiders. I have allways used SGT in Taplow and they are fine but they have the feel of an independent because they also sell and service Morgans and Lotus. I cannot comment on other Alfa dealers Rich...

Admitidely depreciation will be bad on these but again that should get better with age, things are looking good for them if you ask me.

And this means bargains to be had on year old models...

For what it's worth; I tought the Brera was bloated and out of proportion when I saw the first 'road' pics in Evo.
But when I saw it in the metal, I was awestruck. That is one horny car.
I doubt if the spider would be anything less (except when hood is up).

With regards to handling, it may be FWD (and I am convinced Alfa should not have FWD), but look at this...
www.youtube.com/w/Master-Test-Berlinas?v=VloqnLuvCGY&search=alfa%20159
And that is coming from a bunch of chauvenistic German Alfa-haters.

Definately true. But in Italy we got a version of the 145 called the Junior with a 1.6 Twinspark, i'm lucky enough to have one of those in the family and its the most fun i've had in a fwd ever. Unfortunately Alfa never seems to be able to convert cars to RHD properly, i recently tried a 146 in England, the driving position is pretty horrible... Spoils the experience a bit.

we have the Junior over here too in the UK basically a Cloverleaf from the outside but with different wheels. i have a 145 Cloverleaf and agree that the driving position isn't that good, but you get used to it. are LHD versions different to this then?

the Spider and Sportwagon both look very nice, i love the new style front ends, in fact, i love every bit of them all, simply stunning! best get saving my pennies...

I can agree that beauty is an entirely subjective opinion,
Not in relation to design, art or sculpture; perhaps yes, if your child or dog is ungainly and love overcomes the perfections perceived, or a bright personality shines through the physical faults, but all the rest is an objective assessment.
You would argue black is white in order never to be wrong LA...

Maybe so, but half the Brera range and most of the 159's are fwd.

I always thought 'cooking model' meant normal, run-of-the-mill, base model, no?

The Brera isn't bad looking, its just nothing like as good-looking as the concept.
Yes, it does look a lot better in the metal, but its simply not enough.
Other than the hot models to be released later, it is actually slower than the outgoing GTV.
All in all, a fairly poor effort from AR; a "replacement" for the GTV it isn't. Still can't see the point of having the Brera and GT in the same lineup.

The 159, however, is a much better proposition. AR seem to have got it right when it comes to injecting sex-appeal into an otherwise "boring, run-of-the-mill rep saloon" market segment. Just such a shame they can't seem to do so well for the "accessible sports coupé" segment any more.

You sort of sum up how I'm feeling about the new Spider, as you know I have been psyching myself up to replace my current 3.0 V6 as soon as the Brera Spider was release but now I'm thinking hummm... perhaps I'll stick with it, especially with it's new 18" Sienna's and lowered ride height! It should have knocked my socks off and had me rushing to SGT to place an order, I've got the money to do it but I'm not excited, yet! Rich...

Boring Spider, just dribble. Nothing out of the ordinary. Alfa will die if this is all they can do, my heart beat didn't increase, infact it slowed when I saw this. It looks the same as the existing Spider and the Sportwagon looks the same as the 156 sportwagon.

Yeah, and you could make the most gorgeous estate in the world, just like that I suppose...
