Does anyone know if its possible to buy direct from the factory in Milan.

I may be in a position to buy a new Alfa this summer & a mate of mine suggested why dont i fly over to Italy & drive it back?

Benefits would presumably be the 'adventure' & the likely saving.

Is this an option, or is it total tosh?

Many thanks in advance

Not sure if AR will sell "direct" to customers like some other (lower volume) manufacturers will.

In any case, Italy may not be the most tax efficient country to buy from.

In general, you want to look for a country with very high tax on new cars so that the basic price of the car is cut as far as possible by the dealers. Bring it back and pay VAT at 17.5% instead.

Scandanavian countries usually fit the bill...

My old man reckons (he works for a German company) that the Germans go to Denmark to buy their new cars - so that might be worth checking out.

Find a dealership and see if they'd be "willing" to sell you a RHD car.
I believe that (legally) they can't refuse you, but I guess they could simply make it tricky.
Note that Alfa will probably supply a RHD car to a LHD country at a somewhat lower priority than usual, so it may take a little longer to arrive.

The other option is to use a specialist import company - you won't get quite as much of a saving or the "adventure" but it should be a bit easier.

I have got my heart set on a Brera & could just about make it work financially, quick call to Alliance & Leicester/LLoydstsb etc!!

Has anyone had any experiences of the boys down at SmartAlfa, they seem keen & the prices look reasonable?

Anyone know what sort of savings could be had via the Denmark route? Many thanks in advance

The savings are enormous! Mail me for some rough figures from when I bought my GTV in Denmark if you're interested.
