Hi Everyone,

I have just bought an Alfa 156 2.6 V6, The car is great and I am really enjoying it. However there is a but! I have had it about two weeks and in that time I have had a couple of moments where the engine has just stopped for no reason, I then come to a halt and after a couple of tries it starts again. I have also had a couple of moments when it has felt just like an engine misfire though the car has carried on going. The rest of the time the car is running great. I am no mechanic so excuse the bad description but has anybody had a problem like this?

Also what fuel do people tend to use, do people go for the high Octane Shell and BP fuels or stick with standard 95RON?

Thanks
Sean

Interesting, had a customer who had a very early 156 I went on a test drive with in a 159.

(He got rid of it along time ago) he said he had that trouble, and it took ages for Alfa to diagnose it, apparetanlly in the end it was the fly by wire throttle needed resetting.

Best just take it to Alfa and get them to have a look

I had a 156 V6 and a couple of times it started, I pressed the loud pedal and bugger all happened just sat at idle. Switched it on/off and all was fine? Alfa couldn't find anything wrong with it either.

I think its going to be one of those problems the dealer is not going to find easily! As its only happened a few time in a couple of weeks. I might have a go at resseting the fly-by-wire throttle anyone know if its easy to do?
Thanks
Sean

Hi
Thanks for the replies.

The problem has happened again a couple of times since thursday and I have taken more notice of exactly whats happening. The engine actually seems to switch off, This can happen at any speed! If I am doing 40 or over it takes a seconds or so and jump starts itself and I am off again. If at low speed I come to a halt and have to restart with the key. Its pretty annoying.

Anyone anymore ideas, they are gratefully recieved.

Thanks
Sean

See if the pipe from the airfilter is clamped properly, mine has done similar things after a service. Hard to trace the first time, easy now of course.

Good luck

sounds to me like your crank sensor is on way out, or connector for it may be corroded.
either that or a connection to the fuel pump, or cut off switch
