Alfa 166, No Brake Lights!

Hi.
A tad of advise please. Friend owns a 1999 2.5 Alfa 166 automatic.
However, there are no brake lights working on the rear apart from
the centre brake light in the back window.

Checked all fuses (o.k ) checked earths at the bulbs (o.k ) but no
live feeds at the bulbs. A friend who works for Audi says this is
well known fault with A3 and its the brake light switch that is at fault.

Just wondered if anyone here has had this problem and was it the brake
light switch that was the cause of all the problems.
