:cough: ALFA :cough:
According to the current Autocar Jag has finally seen the light and wants to go less mainstream (and away from directly competing with the Germans) for the next generation. The same thing Alfa should do That would leave a sensible niche for Lancia as well, so the two do not need to compete head to head but can capture other segments of the market.
The new 4WD is really good, IIRC Sport Auto tested it in snow and the porky Brera posted a quicker time around the course than the definitely not underpowered new RS4 Now loosing 500 kg and doing the same in the dry would be something to bring Alfa back on the map!

i find the seat is so poorly designed, that under spirited driving i fall out of it!

Yes the Montreal was fitted with the Tipo 33 V8. Great noise, driven wheels at the correct end and ony 1/3 of the price of a Brera. And change left to buy a couple of runabouts.
I think it was a pretty heavily modified version of that V8 though.
When we're criticisng the Brera, it's worth pointing out that when it was new the Montreal cost £5,000 at a time when the lighter, faster E-type cost £3,500.

Poor old Brera gets another kicking in todays Autocar, not satisfied with putting it last in their driver's car test at Oulton, it actually comes a 'woeful' last
They could'nt even bring themselves to say it sounded nice...! Doh!

That's because it doesnt. It doesnt sound anything, the damn engine is a non entity.
When the diesel sounds sportier you know you are in the doodoo.
I've just read the article in full & Autocar reckon that a basic 1.6 Ford Focus is a better device than the Brera for track use, jeez.....!
Here was me thinking i would give it a crack round Cadwell, Doh!
Saw a new TT on the road today for the first time, i have to say it looked good. I may have to get myself back in that Audi showroom ( can't belive i'm having these thoughts!!! )

TBH, I'm not all that surprised by that. I don't know that I'd ever have considered a Brera as an ideal track car.
It's a shame you don't like yours, though. I've got a 3.0 GTV if you fancy a swap?

You still can! Just because Autocrap are on their high horse doesn't mean you have to listen to them.
Shame you are so disappointed with your Brera though, but it does show it's each to their own if you like the look of the new TT....
My old mate would often use the phrase 'handsome is as handsome does', & like an old git myself, i've found myself using it when talking to people about the Brera. It is so good looking, almost exotic looking. I've even had people in cars catching me up with camera phones pressed against their windscreens taking piccies. Thing is, i then feel guilty, somehow the car is a fraud!
Have been back to dealers to swap back to a GT, at the moment the loss is too great & i would'nt sleep at night, so still looking at options.
So if anyone is looking for a nicely run in georgeous looking 8 week old Brera 3.2 with a 7k saving from new ( got to be a steal ), please, please, please do e-mail me

Well just loosing the VAT would make it.. 5k ish.
Never have understood that argument that you lose VAT when you drive off the forecourt... Surely it has no effect - once a car is on the second hand market, the value is determined only by what people are prepared to pay for it and that's going to be influenced by the cost new, not how much the dealer gets after Brown's cut. As an example, you wouldn't expect an AMV8 to be getting sold for less than list minus VAT right now.LexSport said:

Dealers use the VAT argument as it suits!
In my case, they're aware that no-one is really buying these cars, repeatedly duff test reports in magazines are not helping the case either. I know for a fact that i'm not the only one with a V6 thats been back to Alfa to get rid!!!
Such a shame. I'm really chuffed with my JTDm. I agree the seats could do with more support - my Sportwagon had the optional Recaros (like the GT seats) and they were very snug round the corners, but other than that I can't fault it.
Everyone seems fixated with the price/weight/performance of the V6, but the JTS and JTDm owners seem absolutely chuffed to bits with their cars. Perhaps the expectations are lower, perhaps the cars work better in those formats, perhaps it's a bit of both. Not sure, but it's a shame to see you so miffed with yours Cirvy.
