RE: Alfa Romeo 8C
Discussion
Small snippet in this month's Evo.....they claim it'll run the 4.2 litre V8 but will be priced under the Maserati 4200 (around £50k or there abouts). It'll be sold from existing Alfa dealers (and there might only be 1000 made over 4 years )
They claim test mules should be out and about soon but the car won't be ready until '06
Whyohwhyohwhyohwhy has it taken them so long to sort this out? If they'd have acted quicker, it could have been launched next year and would have made a brilliant competitor to next years Aston V8 Vantage.
Still, I guess we're lucky they're going to build it at all.

Autocar (last week's edition) gave the impression the 8C still hasn't been given the official green light.
I reckon it's a go-er, they just don't know where to position it in the Ferrari/Maserati/Alfa hierachy. Autocar quoted up to £100k for it - I guess 'cos bosses fear it'll tread on the toes of the Maserati 4200. Personally, I think that's far too much and it should be in the region of £50/60k. Still, I'm not putting the business case together, so what do I know

anyone know anything about this or is it just re-hashing old news?!
Current rumour is that it'll be launched at the Paris show, around 140,000 euro. I think they're now saying 500, all coupes, but there's some talk of a 50:50 split between coupes and spiders.

£95k that's rediculous... At £65k I'd have my deposit down to SGT like a flash but £95? ummm that's used Ferrari territory...
It's a sum of money, but it's about the market point that the SZ was at when it was launched, i.e. cheaper than a Ferrari, more expensive than a 911. Looking at it longer term, the SZ has retained more of its value (as a percentage) than the contemporary Ferrari 348 or 964.
For me, the fact that it's not a used Ferrari, or Gallardo, or whatever, goes some way to justifying the price.

I was called by a dealer a week or two back back to see if I still wanted in or not. The official line is 500 all coupes - no spyder mentioned at all.
At 95k I'm afraid I'll be keeping my money in my pockets!
From what I remember it's definitely go, 500 coupes for a start with a decision on the spider to be taken later. The 4.2 Maserati V8 bored out to 4.7 litres IIRC. And development was financed out of the marketing budget, as they see it as a better marketing tool than simple advertising As they only have to shift 500 the price makes sense, pricing it too cheap wouldn't have worked. One has to hope, though that they succeed in getting the association from the 8C into their regular range
