There seems to be quite a variance in the secondhand price of this model.
What would you estimate to be a reasonable price to pay for an '89 - S4 in good condition. One I am looking at is priced at £5500 with 85k on the clock but others with only 40k are priced only a couple of hundred pounds more. (this S4 has power steering, electric windows and mirrors and fuel injection, RHD)
Thanks for any info. in advance.

Prices of cars of that vintage tend to be dictated more by body/trim condition than mileage. Sounds like a reasonable price to me. Classic Cars lists a "mint" '89 at £7500.

Thanks Dave for your comment, I'm in a quandry now !!
Should I sell the TVR and buy a Spider S4 or will I lose the driving experience? agreed they are totaly different cars but the wife refuses to go in the TVR whereas she may go in the Alfa. Should I keep the TVR as "mine" and buy the Alfa as an investment ? doh !!!
(if the price is right) Thanks again.

You won't lose the driving experience - you'll just get a different one. The Alfa engine is a real classic and plenty can be done to them.

I wouldn't buy the Alfa as an investment - prices are rising - but slowly and the best investments are the early chrome-bumper cars. Besides you don't buy an Alfa with your head - you buy it with your heart.

There's lots more info (mostly United States admittedly) on AlfaBB.com - very good technical resource, Spiders are much prized over there.

I sold my S4 about six months ago for £6500 - fac car, bit quirky, but certainly the prettiest Alfa.

They are still about that price for a 1990 S4 - 50k on the clock and good condition - in fact saw one the other day for sale and was sorely tempted!!!
