Thanks guys, much appreciated some great info to give me a starting point. Some research coming up. Any recommendations for bodywork as it needs some welding work, front floors one wing and potentially sills, and more if i want it immaculate.
Where in the UK are you?AMGSee55 said:
Alfa Workshop in Royston are very good and not too far from you (relatively speaking) - Ian Ellis in Sussex (Lewes I think?) for restoration services and similarly Alex Jupe in Chichester. Cross fingers for you that “some welding” is just that and it doesn’t turn into a 5-figure endeavour!
If you're just north of Peterborough then Velocesport are probably the easiest to get to.Alfahorn said:
Nice fleet this.Just a question, ive been looking at a 147 to commute in, a bit of fun. Are they quick? Frugal with the fuel economy? Reliable
Ive always wondered why with the 2.0TS the trim is entry level....very odd unless im missing something

The truth is the 147 is a new addition to the team. I bought the car after some late bidding on ebay and secured the car for £510.00 a week ago.
What I can tell you is it's an absolute hoot to drive. In the past I've owned 2.0 TS 155, 156 and 164 and so it's nice to once again own a 2.0 Twin Spark. For me, the last truly characterful 4 cylinder petrol engine Alfa producted.
It's brisk rather than quick. However, it's free revving and drive it like to stole it nature is what really appeals. I've commuted in it once and over a 30 mile commute I averaged 34 mpg.
With regards to spec. Mine is the Lusso (Luxury) this particular car has extras which include; Full Blue Leather Interior, heated seats, climate control and my car has the nuvola blue paint which I believe was £1500 option when new.
The 147 was offered in Turismo and Lusso spec. During the cars production life there were some special editions but most of those were fitted with the 1.9 diesel engine.
I've owned 9 Alfas and my experience has been very positive and I've found the lack of reliability thing something of a myth usual perpetuated by a bloke down the pub who's sisters, mates, milkmans, plumber had an Alfasud 45 years ago and the door handle fell off on day one kine of scenario.

I loved my 2.0 TS Lusso
I’m only a week in and I think it’s the best £510 I’ve spent ever! On a side-note, how do you find the Brera? I've been mulling over the 3.2 Prodrive; and actually turned down a to-die-for Spider, a few months ago which I keep kicking myself over.

Like the 147 the Brera was bought on a whim a year ago. Although, I had a bit more time to think about the Brera. Where as the winning bid on the 147 was made in the last few seconds of the auction and was very much done on a ' what's the worst that can happen' scenario!
The 1750 is immense. However, yes if I was going for a JTS it'd be the 3.2 in S spec.

It depends what you want, the 2.2 Brera S handles and rides better than the V6 because it is lighter and much less nose heavy, the V6 is slightly faster with a nicer engine and sounds better. The V6 isn’t much faster than the 2.2 because it is heavier and has much longer gearing.I chose a 2.2 because of the handling and absolutely loved it, my perfect Brera would be a supercharged 2.2 S.

My view point comes from owning the TBI. Put to one side the obvious advantages of the Prodrive enhancements there is no contest between the TBI and the 2.2. Its for this reason if I didn’t have TBI I’d have the 3.2. It’s much more characterful unit than the 2.2.I chose a 2.2 because of the handling and absolutely loved it, my perfect Brera would be a supercharged 2.2 S.
It’s a shame the TBI wasn't available for the S treatment.
