Alfa 156 2.5 v6

Thinking about a replacement for the mundano, needs to commute me 50 miles per day, not overly worried about the fuel as long as I can get 25-30mpg on a gentle run, and have noticed locally a alpha 156 2.5 v6 for 8K. It has fsh and this is a dealer price, it is an y reg which means I’m paying around 700-1k over but it has only done 23k.
What do you reckon good or bad?

I've got one, it's done about 86K and drives just fine. Make sure the service history is 100% and you'll have no problems. Alfa (or at least independants) are suggesting the cam belts and tensioners get checked sooner rather than later, so maybe throw that into the deal. Cracking car for the money.
Not sure about the modded suspension, I've been told it knackers up the cambers and causes excessive tyre wear...

Can't provide any practical experience of the Alfa I'm afraid, but I'd definitely rate it as 
From a Fiat family PoV, I did run a Fiat Bravo HGT for 4 years (as a company car) which would lead me to advise checking all the interior and trim etc. as this was the weak point on that car rather than the mechanicals.
If you're planning on using the franchised dealer network, I'd also check out your local establishment quite carefully. I had various problems with mine, which were only resolved by a series of letters to the MD and to Fiat themselves, and I gather this wasn't an isolated experience.
Other than that, if it's a good'un you're guaranteed a much higher feel-good good factor than the Mondeo IMHO. If the sports suspension is the factory fit option, I think this should noticeably improve the handling IIRC from the reviews at the time.

There was a change to the factory spec on the sports suspension cars. You just need to make sure the front tracking should be set to parallel, and the tyre wear will then be even. The Sportpack (later called Veloce) suspension makes a huge difference, especially with a strut brace. It prevents the bottoming out that the heavier engined (2.4 JTD and 2.5 V6) 156's are reknowned for. The ride is a bit crashy on bad roads, but it's worth it.
