Hi all,
Just a quick question.

My GF and I have just bought an Alfa and it seemed like a damn good buy, just wondering if you could let me know if this was so? We were looking at BMW 3 series but the cost for what you get seemed daft after seeing the Alfa

156 2.0 JTS Lusso
03 plate, first regd in May 2003
8500 miles on the clock.
immaculate, leather seats, cd player, cruise control, multi function steering wheel, trip computer, automatic air con.

cost £10,995 from a main dealer

Sounds great and we are well pleased with the car.

Welcome to Alfa Ownership!!!!!

This will either be the first of many, or you will never ever have one again, and you will tell everyone you meet that Alfas are made by the slave army of Satan.
But only on Friday afternoons.

Sounds like you got a good deal. The main reason is that a facelift 156 came out in September, and that has hit already poor used values quite hard. But don't worry, because they succeeded in making the most elegant 4 door saloon (in the world) ever, a big nosed abberation.

In years to come the first generation 156 saloon will be the one that people will want to pay money for. Pure unfettered design.

It sounds good to me.
Welcome to Alfa ownership. I have returned after a few years of BMW and other german marque ownership.
Currently have a Y reg sportwagon veloce and having a hoot. Sure, the engine hasn't got as much grunt as my previous BMW but I reckon it will outhandle it.
Nothing has fallen off yet either which is a bonus.

Well having driven the car for a few miles, I have to say it is probably the sweetest car I have ever driven.

Not that I have much experience:
Learnt on a Volvo 340
Put up with a Renault Laguna
Had an Escort 1.8si
Loved a TVR S3
Have done a Palmer motorsport track day (in various fast cars).

However I think the 156 is such a dream to drive, comfortable, smooth and poised, yet get the revs up and it takes corners with great stability and asks for more. I love the little touches like the red dials and lights at night. The speedo in the tunnel so the GF can't see it. To have all of the additions on a BMW would have cost about 10k more than what I paid and to be honest I can't see where 10k more on a BMW would actually be worth it, mind you I havnt owned a BMW so I can't say really.

Anyway, the car is great and I'm very happy with it.

Glad to hear it! A fantastic car in both looks and performance although it isn't quite as capable as some of the older Alfas in comparison thanks to all those extras
