Help advice needed.

Looking to replace my VX220 that I have had for two years and love with something a little bit more practicle but still fun. Second car so low mileage and does not need to be too practicle just more so that VX 220. Would a three litre GTV fit the bill?

I love the lines of the GTV and the thought of a three litre v6 is extremely appealing. Already had a look on GTV6.com for some ideas, but trying to get a feel what it would be like to live with?

Thanks

Blimey - we think along the same lines!

I had a 2.0 TS GTV a couple of cars before the VX, and am also now thinking of heading back in that direction.

Things to consider:

It won't handle or communicate nearly as well as the VX.

The boot really isn't very large with the spare tyre in it.

Oil supposedly needs keeping an eye on, although my 2.0 never burnt any.

It may well have 'character' (or problems, more accurately), but no more than the VX does.

Drive one and see what you think. I'm torn between something like this (because they're very pretty cars), an Impreza (because I've not had the pleasure of a turbo-nutter car yet) or just modding the VX to give it a bit more poke.

I've used my 3.0V6 as a daily driver for the past 3 years. Not the most practical car in the world [*], but good fun.

Not in the same league as VX/Elise when it comes to lightweight point & squirt ability, but handles & goes pretty well

[*] Saying that, we have done a 2-week continental trip in it with no problems (hint - the back seats aren't for people, but can carry a fair bit of luggage)

See my profile for the car's history from new.

I changed from a Elise to a GTV and now I'm desperate to get back into a Elise or perhaps VX220 Turbo.

Don't do it!

Drive a 145 cloverleaf and elise.

Depends what you want from driving. Ask yourself the question: If I were designing a car for myself what would it be? Personally it's the elise, or VX.

Don't misunderstand, I love Alfa Romeos, but to me driving is about handling, the straight bits are only there so the cops have somewhere to set up their speed cameras. Corners are king.

From your shortlist of two, practicality is not the issue here, so why compromise. If you want a sports car stick with the VX, if want something a little less demanding go for the Alfa.

Regards, Neil

Edited to say - Are you crazy? you've got one of the most amazing cars on the road today at any price, Alfas are good but come on
