Straight back, and before close of play today if poss, before the weekend shift get in and tell you that you will have to wait until next week to do anything.

Leave it with them until sorted, ask for a replacement car for the interim, if they refuse, I'm sure the salesman has something you could borrow (his car for example).

If it is not sorted within a week, reject car. Also you may want to find out where you stand legally from the CAB BEFORE you need to bring your consumer rights into force, don't know what or if there are any time limits on rejecting cars.

Unfortunately some Selespeed cars tend to be dogs and some are fine, if you have been sold a dog, get shot of it.

Cue stroppy customer on the sales floor? Unacceptable to supply a brand new vehicle, have it go wrong on the 1st day and then palm you off for a week IMO.

Sorry, should have said the car is 2nd hand and the dealer i bought it from has had it booked there as:
A) they are not an Alfa dealer
B) they are a hundred miles away !

Two bits of advice, one not very helpful, the other highly recommended.

1). The root of the problem is that you bought a car with an axiomatically crap gearbox. I don't know anybody with a sillyspeed who hasn't had problems with it. It's an abomination and should have been strangled at birth.

2). The Amersham dealer was responsible for the most appalling "service" I have ever come across in any industry. I actually caught them trying to charge me £850 for something that cost £80 to fix and when confronted with the evidence they refused to even apologise, much less offer an explanation. Take your car to SGT at Taplow. They will look after you.

Soz to hear bout your problem, is the warranty with Alfa/3rd paty?

I've found Perrys, amersham to be quite good - far far better than Perrys in Aylesbury! Still can't beat SGT though

Its hopefully (fingers crossed) covered by Alfa's 3 year warranty which runs out today but the fault was reported last week !!

If not the dealer i got it from will cover it and failing that i've got RAC warranty to the value of the car !!

All sorted, apparently the clutch plunger was out of Alignement, not covered by any warranty but the dealer coughed up the best part of £80 (good show sir)and now it runs like a dream, rewarded with a spirited blast home !!

On a side note, Perry's in Amersham were amiable hosts and will be rewarded with the 36k service next week !!

Good to hear you got it sorted quickly/with little fuss.

Amersham seem quite good - just try and avoid Aylesbury.... for yesterday 3 parts guys there can't tell me what bulbs I needed for a rear no. plate light & dash illumination bulb. It says in the handbook but I didn't have it with me, yet none of them knew/would help me find out... stopped in amersham on my way back, Dave in parts knew what they were without even looking them up. Never used Amersham for servicing, but due to previous disputes I avoid Aylesbury like the plague, was prepared to give them a 2nd (well more like 5th) chance, which they managed to convince me why I will keep avoiding them in future...
