Valentines Day
Discussion
I'll cook us something a bit nicer than a usual Wednesday evening meal and organise a nice bottle of something to go with it, I'll get flowers sent to her at work, simple things but she always appreciates the effort and the gesture and I do like eating and drinking, whats not to like? I really don't understand why so many chose to be miserable sts over it!
Not sure if I'm lucky or unlucky here. Met the girlfriend last year, it's a big birthday for her this year and it's on Valentines Day. Plus she has to be into the whole occasion what with her being the manager of a greeting cards business!!.
However, she's level headed. With her work, Valentines started months ago - it's over now, she's currently talking Easter & Fathers Day lines, plus she works late on Wednesdays. I'll pick her up from work & go to the cinema on the 14th, I have arranged for some flowers (yellow roses, not red).
The following weekend she knows I'm taking her out for a meal at the place we had our first date, I won't tell her until her birthday that we are staying there overnight & waking up to sea views.
It's my 50th this year too, we've also agreed no presents but to go halves on a trip to US later in the year.

My fiancee isn't that bothered by Valentine's Day; she is of the understanding that we show our love for each other through the year, rather than on one specific day. Hence why she is now my fiancee!
In all seriousness though, I reckon we might go out for a meal somewhere, albeit not on the night of the 14th. That's about it though.

In case anyone is stuck for ideas for a romantic meal this year..

So I was going to send some flowers and I'm all for supporting local business yet my local florist wants £6.00 for delivery (or £12.00 if you want them pre 12pm), which seems fking scandalous to me considering it's 5mins up the road!
Interflora is your friend, £10 for "Gold Membership" which gives you free delivery for a year, which pays for itself with two deliveries I(standard delivery is £6 a throw) the local florist will have matched the delivery costs against Interflora. Also Interflora pumps its work through local florists, so you are still supporting them by using them and they actually get paid fairly for the work! (my mum used to be a florist) Luckily my girlfriend thinks it's as much of a marketing exercise as I do, thus we don't waste money on it.
Unfortunately my 12 year old son wants to take his girlfriend to dinner and it has to be on the 14th, smack in the middle of the holiday I'm taking him and his elder brother on.
He is seriously considering not coming on the holiday.
Feking Valentine's day, stick it and those thorny roses up yer arse

All you guys who don't see the need to evidence your love on Feb 14th. While I totally agree, I think you'll find that the female of the species actually hopes you'll do something a bit special for them. They may say otherwise but......
and in my experience you don't have to spend a fortune, it's the thought (and effort) that counts.geeks said:

The local florist I used is an Interflora florist it just seems absurdly expensive for a local delivery. I could have probably gone and picked them up myself in a taxi for less!A few weeks ago the other half disappeared while I was on a night shift. The story was he was taking his mum to theatre. To cut a long story short his mum was at home and he was was away for the night. Confronted him and got no sense out of him! Since then he has not rung or texted only replies to my texts. Not a word or text on Valentine’s - I rang him a few days later and he claimed he was waiting for me to call and says he had no call from me on Valentine’s. He also says he won’t ring because he knows I won’t answer.
Valentine is important to me so he missed an opportunity to make up. I won’t be chasing him and have decided to start dating again. He can take his “mum” out as much as he likes now!! I want to find someone who won’t disappear while I am on night shift and someone who will at least call on Valentine’s Day.
