What oils did you use?
Millers CRX 75w90
Millers CFS 10w40

Both are fully synthetic, Nanodrive and Motorsport. Whatever all that means.

Fitted the 987 Cayman seats. Total transformation to the driving position. I'm a lot lower, I have much more support around my back and my legs are now touching the base rather than having my knees in the air.

Wow

Wow

Wow

Best thing I have ever done to a car.

It now feels like a sports car.

It didn't before.

I thought I'd take the opportunity of good weather to give my humps a little bit of driving time yesterday before I decide its hard top time. I'm not sure if they make any difference to the wind buffeting or they are purely for show. We do hope Porsche put some design time into them. My car doesn't have the standard wind deflector so maybe I need one of those.

The driving position is much much better with the 997 seats. I like these so much I bought some for my 996 too. I still need to work out the wiring for the rake adjustment so for now they are stuck at the same angle and can not be adjusted. Right now the rake is maybe a bit too far back and I am almost too far from the steering wheel. I cant decide if I should try to rake the seat forward or try a test fit of my Momo wheel from the 996. The leg room is still much tighter in the boxster especially since the biting point of the clutch is very high in the boxster compared to the 996. So if I rake the seat forward I will just eat up a bit of leg room.

When I drive the 996 back to back with the boxster I notice the differences. I think the most annoying thing right now is the gear change. The 996 feels slick but the boxster is not. I think this needs some attention. I'm not sure if it is just tight from minimal usage or something is a miss. The 996 had new shifter cables and it shifts lovely. I will ask some other owners for their thoughts on this.

I'm still driving the car with 4 fronts on so that means skinny 205 tyres all round. It drives nice. I've tried throwing it around a bit and other than small roundabouts I cant get the back end out of shape. The wheel arch gap is comical as the wheels are tucked into the arches by about 2 or even 3 inches. I think I've proved to myself that I dont need massive tyres on the back so now I need to decide if I am sticking with 4 fronts or buying some different wheels. My 996 does need its front wheels back.

The last thing I'll ramble on about is the engine and gearbox mounts. When I change gear in the boxster I definitely feel some weight shifting around especially when shifting at higher revs. It kind of feels wrong and makes me want to adjust my driving style to prevent it. I'm not sure fi this is normal or I just have some tired mounts on the car.

I like the idea of fitting the 997 seats, I’ll have to keep a look out for some as I do find the standard 986 seats uncomfortable.
The wind deflector does make a difference and cuts out a lot of the buffeting. It’s not as calm as our SLK but it is pleasant enough to drive up to legal limit and still have a conversation without shouting.

Engine and more importantly the two transmission mounts was one of the best things I ever did on my Boxster.

Old Air cooled engine mounts work great as trans mounts on Boxster!

Apologies I missed your previous question - yes, the front Engine Mount and rear Transmission mounts are an easy DIJ job. Extra jack (or the widowmaker jack out the frunk) with a bit of wood under the engine to lift it, and just do one at a time.

If i remember rightly its 993RS engine mounts that fit the Boxster Transmission, one of the online places does a very well priced aftermarket kit. Made the gear change loads better and you can 'feel' the difference when cornering too.

The entire exhaust on Boxster/911 is solid mounted off the engine too which is quite different to most cars, so theres a lot of weight on them. When you see Boxsters with a saggy exhaust hanging two inches below the bumper cutout, its the transmission mounts. Most of the cheap cars you see these days!

My exhaust on the Boxster is the other way round - its hard up against the bumper cut out. And its slight off centre too but only my OCD mates care about that.

I was thinking about the 9x7 seats Vs 9x6 seats. My wife has sports seats in her Boxster and they are much better than the sports seats in my 996.

Engine moving about and odd gear changes is definitely the mounts.

Assuming she has a 987?

Forget the sports seats. They are very expensive second hand. Your best bet is the standard 9x7 seats because I think most people are trying to upgrade from standard to sport. These are plenty supportive because you sit in them rather than on them.

Also I'm not sure if the 987 seat is different to the 997 seat. I have 997 seats in my 996 and 987 seats in my 986 and the driving position is definitely different. It could just be the floor of the car because I am a lot higher in the 986.

Yep sorry that wasn't very clear. We've both got sports seats but mine are the older generation as fitted to the 986/996 and hers are newer as fitted to the 987/997.

Sports seats are more expensive but I'm not sure I could justify the 'downgrade' from sports 986 to normal 987. And I could get them in grey so my interior matched!

The you need to pony up young man.

I got lucky with my 986 - it has a black interior. I only paid 150 for these half leather and half whatever the rest is.

987/997 sports seats in grey seem to be silly money. I ended up going for a drivers seat only but am still on the look out for a set, or just a passenger seat.

I'll put my shorts on, maybe even a tank top
