V8 M In Classifieds
Discussion
Must admit it looks a good investment given my own 2013 project purchase likely to pass the £8.5k mark anytime soon after a brown UPS delivery truck collided with entire drivers side of my white 3000m after i came up off the M42 motorway slip road last week...on bright side its not a write off & is repairable. Just.
Mind you I have been getting 28mpg what will this extra litre or so of this re engined 1600M bring to the fuel economics equation?

28mpg, is there something wrong with your right foot sir? Though I did used to get 24ish out of my Taimar, and once 31mpg on a long cruise back from Zlder with a poorly gearbox seal.
I should imagine that when honing around in the V8M the fuel consumption would be the last of one's concerns.
Oliver.

No right foot not that effete, honest. New manifolds and a hand made stainless steel exhaust by Granfab of Nottingham made an astonishing difference to performance & economy on short but especially longish journeys.
Sod's law that one gets walloped a month after that expenditure as well as some paint, but bodywork (fortunately?) only rather than any mechanical damage. Once repaired I promise to drive it faster...oh hang on got (another) family saloon sourced speed camera 3 points and fine in August as well !

It's my M(V8) for sale. I thought that was a realistic price, have I underpriced it? Some of you have seen it at TVRCC meets and the Lakes motor museum meet etc.
A recent house move means no garage facilities for the foreseeable future. I have decent dry storage but not very local. Thought I would see if anybody wants to take care of it, if not it will be 'wrapped up' and stored for a year (or more) with perhaps just the odd run in summer.
What's the opinion, will prices rise on the M's?

Your at quick sale private seller price IMOP so just dont let a dealer steal it off you a Dealer show room and 6 months and someone would pay more however thats a judgment from pictures only to really judge you need to feel touch and Drive A recent house move means no garage facilities for the foreseeable future. I guess a lot depends on whether you want a converted M or origina,l if your after a V8 then its a bargain as it would cost a lot more to buy and convert a standard car. I personally think its cheap but its a case of finding the person who wants wants it but I have 3 already a Griff an Vixen and a 3000m or I would be certainley considering it.Just out of interest what Diff are you using?

If you sell a car at a price that you want, then you get the deal you want regardless of whether you sell it privately or to a dealer. If a dealer thinks he can make money on a deal, then good luck to him, it's his business.
Andrew, On one hand you want old TVRs to get mega prices, and on the other you want a good deal for private sellers. It is dealers selling cars at high prices that is pushing the value up, and therefore increasing the value of your fleet. They have their place in the market

Seems to be "Dealer Bashing" season!!A
There is a vast difference between a dealer and a specialist. Virtually all the cars recently "stolen" by dealers are still for sale. These guys are people who have seen a rising market and seized on it. Unfortunately most/all of them have no product knowledge to support either the buyer or the car.
If there had been no TVR dealers/specialists for the last 30 years or so then virtually all of you wouldn,t be here because without these thiefs there would be no confidence or backup and the prices would have fallen to nothing......look at all the marques with no specialist dealers, they have little or no value. Without the likes of David Geralds, Colin Lyons , Tony Abrams at Harrogate/Hexhah HHC and Adrian@, TVR would not be as sought after as they are so be careful about strong language.
Very few people have the first idea how being a VAT registered tax paying car dealer works. Its quite complicated, for example VAT. Dealer buys car for £10000 and sells for £11000. He immediately pays £200 Vat on the margin. If he spends £500 preparing it for sale he still pays £200 on the magin, so his £1000 profit becomes £300. He may be able to claim some of the vat back on what he has spent and offset some of it against income tax but not always. Motor trade and public liability insurance surely isnt cheap so if your selling low numbers of specialist cars the insurance cost per car can be significant. Phones, internet, transport and transportation, heating, lighting, staff, accountants, fuel all have to be paid for.If you are fortunate to make a profit income tax too. And every customer now is an internet warrior and self confessed expert so they want to sue you if it runs out of petrol.
Those who work in the "black economy" who buy and sell but claim to have bought them for their sister who doesn,t now like the colour pay none or few of the outgoings.
In the mainstream motor trade the car is almost a loss leader and the profit comes from commission on finance, a rare occurence at our level of classic car purchase.
When you see a car advertised on ebay or other internet sources there is absolutely nothing stopping you buying it before the thieves. It amuses me when people say I missed the end of the auction. BID AT THE BEGINNING THEN!
As a dealer in a highly specialised market you have to be patient, knowledgable and offer a lifetime guarantee.
Be careful what you wish for.
ps I hope the car has gone to a good home.

Remember seeing this car at the motor museum near Windermere a couple of years ago and it certainly looked pretty good then. It is also quick as I recall it flying past my 3000M on the way there! Also a bit surprised at the price, as it's a V8 I thought it would be nudging 10K if not a bit more. The car will certainly sell very easily at the current price.

Do i want to see them Double again in the next 5 years no i dont as that would price them out of the reach of the wonderful people that are involved with them now and into the hands of collectors where they may not see the light of Day and spoil the great spirit among current owners.
What i really want is more dealers that are interested in the mark such as Hexam David Gerald or Rooney and i also wished the our wonderful Guru would also either sell cars or at least broker cars for owners that way new blood would come into the mark and that is healthy the cars sold in that way would command a Premium and thats how i bought my 3000S from Ferhurst.
When i called in to them just for a look i had no intention of buying a car but came out the owner of a car that has totally captivated my attention and has brought so many friends and can only be compared to what happens when someone discovers Religion.
Private sales will always be somewhere below dealer Prices IMOP and this car was priced to sell and in ways for a non OE car maybe got it spot on as he would not have advertised at that price if he was happy with what he got and should one of the Dealers i mentioned above have bought it gives it a check over and a clean bill of health and makes a margin on it great especially if they sell to new blood.
However if a dealer that has no TVR Knowledge does so and is just speculating then it would be a shame.
