Ive got a convertible v8v 09 plate, manual.

Ive had really odd issue happen about a dozen times since i bought the vehicle about 18 months ago.

It happened most recently last night. I was coming upto a split on an A road, i was in 3rd gear.

There was a driver ahead who didn't know where they where going and slowed down, i had to slow down because of them, i was probably at 20 mph at this moment, with the engine at 1500 RPM.

Normally you would not be in 3rd gear here, but i could see the road ahead was clear and didn't want to downshift, so i just left it in 3rd and accelerated, this was fine for the first 2 seconds, but as i was accelerating and the RPMS where increasing, at about 2500 RPM, the car lurched, as if there was a sudden loss of power, for about half a second, the car then continued to accelerate as normal until i was up to about 50MPH.

Ive had this issue happen a few times its pretty infrequent and the vehicle always recovers straight away but its a bit of a shock when it happens.

The common factors are: usually in 2nd or 3rd gear, when perhaps i should be in 1st or 2nd respectively. So usually a gear too high. (Im often driving in London, so when going over roads with sleeping policemen i often keep the vehicle in 2nd rather than continually shift between 1st and 2nd.) This always happens on acceleration, it seems to happen on both flat and inclined roads.

Any idea what could be causing this, and is it something to be concerned about ?

Sounds similar to the problem I’ve had with my 06 V8V which I’m now fairly sure is due to the traction control cutting in prematurely. It doesn’t only cut the fuel, but it also jabs on the rear brakes so it gives quite a violent jolt just for a fraction of a second. When it happens it’s always during fairly mild acceleration when there is no discernible wheel spin. It appears it could be a bug in the coding for the traction control but no one I’ve spoken to when I get the car serviced can confirm it. I’ve found a new set of rear tyres has helped though.

Here’s a link to a previous thread on the subject:

Could be a sticky throttle body. There was a tutorial on here years ago about how to clean.
