Before I read all that, how much would it cost per day?

I already pay £450 to park at the station and then another £4k for the train so £300 would be a bargain.

My car is extremely economical when parked. Something like 0 CO2 emissions, everyone should purchase a car like mine.

You've got a car park - you flash bd!

We are in new offices that were granted 4 parking spaces for an office of 10! To encourage alternative travel - we are in the fking middle of nowhere. The only alternative is to not go to work!

It wouldn't bother me as I would use my push bike instead.

£1.20 a day? Bargain compared to a lot of places I've worked at.

An awful lot of mainstream cars (including my daily driver) would be on the £120 band anyway. And I imagine a lot of university staff live fairly close, in easy cycling distance, anyway.

^^^ tell me about it.

I Live and work in Cornwall where all the industrial areas are outside of towns and off bus routes. Then they try to tell us we should be using public transport to go to work.

The buses never get anywhere before 8am, and even then it's town centres: I'm at work for 7:30 normally. The trains are non-existent unless you live and work in one of the few places that still has a train station and even then, they're few and far between.

I hate the ecomentalists and you know what, they hate everyone else. It's why they try to cause so much trouble.

There is a solution for them: arrange a "march" down the mall and when they're all packed in, let the RAF strafe it.

Pay £300 and let them know you're upgrading to a 5 litre AMG. And that you will be negotiating a proportionally higher increase in your salary. Your higher salary is not a tax for employing you; it's an effective way of keeping you employed so that they don't have to waste time and money searching for a new employee. (In case you're wondering wtf, read the reply to "The government is already taxing us on our C02 emissions, so why is the University choosing a system that is taxing us again for it?".)

I love the bit where it says students are encouraged not to bring their cars - def. wasn't the case when I was there....

Half the students have a better car than I do!

It's also worth pointing out that there are no public transport connections to this place. There's a ropey mid-sized bus service. The station's about 3 miles away. There are quite a few bike racks around the place, but they're jam-packed as it is.

Btw, I've decided to start cycling in. So I guess they have won. I will be bringing my bike into my office, however, to mark my protest.

I have the choice of paying £8 a day to park outside my work, or park in a side street for free and walk 5 minutes. Guess which one I chose?

It's frustrating but what can you do? They want to raise more money under the guise of ecolies. You could campaign but you'd be called a Nazi denier. You can't win. You could resign on principle but would you quit a good job over £300? Simply make sure you get an annual payrise that includes the £300 as part of the deal or look elsewhere for a job. And I expect it'll rise to £325 next year "because it was warmly accepted by our colleagues". In 5 years, it'll be £500 or more, or graduated based on emissions... £400 for 1.4L and under, up to £800 for <2.0L, £1500 for cars > 2.0L.

Yes, yes, those cars with exactly 2.0L engines will be allowed to park FOC. tongue out

Love the fact that the question "Why do visitors not have to pay?" is asked twice!

The Executive Leadership Team wanted the University to give the impression of being welcoming and friendly. The University welcomes different types of visitors many of whom offer time and support to the University. Visitors give very positive feedback about not being charged. This will be reviewed in two years.
Impression of being welcoming and friendly. PR own goal?

ETA: the hike from £60 would wind me up...
