Saw a 335i that I was interested in for my other half, but it's spent a large proportion of it's life in Edinburugh (covered about 60k)....

I want to keep this car for a while but am wondering about the rust implications given how heavily and prolonged the roads are gritted up there?

Am I worrying about nothing?

Nope, Scotland is weird and all the cars are used to carry haggis and they mix fuel 50-50 with Irn Bru.

I found a 335 coupe in the perfect spec from a seller somewhere in scotland. It was an 8hour round trip i was prepared to make but the seller was a complete and utter cock.

Of course before the PC brigade churp up, these can crop up anywhere in the UK.

So providing the seller is decent and the car is in good knick (no pun intended, ooops PC brigade again), then go for it.

My renault has spent 6 years in Aberdeen and not fallen apart yet.

As previously mentioned it does smell of haggis though and is a bit rough on idle if you don't have the right mix of irn-bru in the tank.

Make sure you apply for your visa in plenty of time before you come up to view.

There's nothing like a bit of good old fashioned racism, is there? redcard

Yes, providing all the service history/documentation checks out.

rofl So Scottish cars are now a race? rofl

Must be the least appropriate usage of the "racism" card I've seen in a long time.

It will actually be a better presented model than you would get in Englandshire, due to the constant wonderful weather we have here, or 'rain' as it's known locally the car will be washed by nature for you the whole way to the border at which point you will have to begin washing it yourself. This may be a bargaining tool for you so remember to bring it up.

I think the OP has a good point, although it may not apply so much with modern cars as it did with older cars which weren't so well rust proofed.

I had a few cars up there back inthe 80s, 90s.

Anything which had a , shall we say, 'dubious' reputation for rust proofing quality, would be done for in just a few years.

But almost all modern cars are pretty good these days.

The bigggest issue would be the quality of servicing given that a scotsman will likely drain the oil, sieve it, and put it back in! smile

I'd personally would not call it 'racism', to be honest, but the knuckle-draggers who read the Sun like to identify it 'racism'.
