Just bought a 328i hack, what's really noticeable after driving modern cars with their 35 and 45 series rubber and big rims is just how good the ride is compared to big rims, absolutely night and day! When pushing hard the feedback and progressiveness of the slide is much better too. I think we have been sold a dummy with these bling ultra low profile wheels.

Bring back old school rubber and rims!

The old Battlecruiser had 225 60R 15's front and rear...absolutely loved the feel of them, even on a heavy car!

(17 inch Alpina Softlines)

My E30 retains the standard 15 inch BBS cross spokes, 205/55s on those.

Yep, with you too...

The RallyWreck's on 195/55/15's at 300bhp, the S2's 295bhp on 205/55/16's and the Ur's 200 (+ish) on 215/50/15's... All delivered without issue, wet, dry, snow, mud or gravel, and without breaking vertebrae.

205/60 x15 on my old TVR too, and I'm sticking with it!

A few years ago I had an S13 Nissan 200sx.
When I needed new rubber I bought a set of 17" wheels with 40 profile tyres, and it completely ruined the ride.
I then changed to 45 profile tyres and things improved very noticeably.

Rubber bands are all very well on a smooth race track, but on the road a nice tall sidewall is much nicer, in my opinion.

Big wheels and skinny tyres are very "marketing led". Make them runflats (with maybe a sports suspension for good measure) and a decent car is ruined!

Standard wheels = 17"

Above wheels = 16"

Looks awesome if you ask me - you don't always need large rims for looks.

High profile (usually chinese) tyres are terrible. Some are stacked horizontally, so the bottom tyre is completely squashed making it a massive pita to fit. Low-profile tyres are much more resistant to it, that said my 306 is on 195/55s tongue out

That looks amazing. Anyone else remember when 60 series tyres first came out? I recall reading a "Car" report on the Fiat 131 Sport, which (I think) was the first volume car with low profile tyres. They raved about the ride and handling.

I think it looked something like this:

My old 535 had the same size. Ride quality was astonishing, even for a 19-year old car that was probably on the original dampers smile
