Hi all,
I have recently acquired a base model Lupo E, and to be honest i love the little thing, its totally impractical for what i need but its a well built little car none the less. After spending the last few days fettling, cleaning and getting a service done i began to wonder how much it would cost to get a remote central locking system fitted.
I totally dont mind the DIY window approach, but remote central locking would be a big connivence, especially when it comes to passengers and forgetting to lock the passenger door or boot.
Ive seen this kit after a bit of googling....
http://www.rclick.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=53&... It looks perfect for what i want but i wouldn't trust myself to fit it without killing myself. Does anybody know of any companies that offer the same sort of thing fitted? Would most mechanics just take on the job? Or would you steer clear of the idea?

Thanks PH

Looks decent enough for the price. Any auto-electician should have no problems fitting it for you. It looks pretty simple to be fair, I'd have a bash if my car required it.

Why does it need to be remote? I can understand the desire for central locking, but I've never really seen the harm in using a key in the driver's door to activate it.

On a tiny car like that where you can reach across and unlock the passenger door, and you have no rear doors to deal with, is it really worth the effort?
Alternatively you could have bought the next model up, which does have remote locking.

I have a mx5 without central locking and whilst I don't miss the remote, I agree a lack of central is annoying (have to wait for my passenger to leave the car before locking etc). I think you'd find getting parts from a scrapped lupo with central locking might be a lot easier to fit than trying to get a generic kit to fit

This thread might be worth a read http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7...

Haven't done it myself but there seems to be quite a few using the Rightclick kit.

If it were me, I would just buy the next model up. A kit sounds like a good idea but could get expensive if you have to get an auto electrician involved etc.

If your good with that sort of stuff then go for it.

Go for it mate, the hardest part is taking all the trim off your car and routing the wires. These kits normally contain all the info you need, if you get stuck theres loads of info all over the net.

Looking at the website in your link, RightClick offer a UK Nationwide fitting service or there's a technical helpline if you go DIY & run into problems (£1 a minute though, ouch!).

You're just retrofitting the solenoids in the doors & the central locking control unit which are similar to the parts VW fit. I think the trickiest bit of that job would be removing the door trim & cards, I always break something paperbag

Go for it.

I fitted central locking to my five door Fiesta. Took a while, but only because I had to make up my own loom and solder all the connections. The motors had to be wired front driver to rear passenger, rear driver to front passenger meaning miles of wires.

Worth it? Oh yes, best mod ever. Although I don't think I'd have bothered on a three door unless it also unlocked the boot.

If you're not confident about that sort of thing, have a call round some local auto electrical places, they're not that hard to fit.

Always pop in though, don't ring them up as when the manager says "we don't do that sort of thing" you can approach one of the guys directly who'll probably enjoy doing it on the weekend as a hobble.

Cheers for the info, Ill probably print of the web page and take it into a few auto electric guys see if its worth doing for the cost. The main problem with not having central locking is that i have to individually walk round all the doors to lock them. As i'm used to having a car with central locking i tend to forget. Not to mention the minor inconvenience. Ive had a quick look over at club lupo and it seems a few guys over there have fitted the same kit.
Like i say its not essential, its more something to satisfy myself. As regards to buying the next model up, for some reason the insurance was a few hundred pounds more expensive and the car i purchased came up at a very reasonable price considering milage, condition and year.
Thanks alot.

Edit: By all the doors, i mean the other door.
