Keep this in mind if you are crossing the Channel!
Discussion
If any of you are planning on going over to the continent I have found a nice little way to keep the costs down when using the Tunnel or the Ferry's!
Book the trip you want over then book a RETURN for the NEXT DAY, then do not turn up for the return, then do the same for your return trip. Some of the companys do very cheap rates for Day Trips using the Channel. I use the crossing on a monthly basis and it does work, its worth checking the price of the actual return trip you want friet just to make sure.
For an example I have booked the Eurotunnel for tomorrow to come back to the UK using this trick at a cost of £44, The return I wanted would have cost £199 if I booked it normally.

Mmmm, this used to be a big no-no as Eurotunnel would always run your plates on their system and charge you full price if you were breaking their T&C, I personally know several people who have been stung by this in the past. However now that they've moved to an automated check-in it appears that it easier to get away with.
If you do it and get away with it, fair play, but it's not a very clever thing to be plastering it over an internet forum as you never know who'll read it and be thinking, "We obviously have to start cracking down on this". Well not if you want to continue doing it!

Does anyone know why the industry (tunnel, trains, ferries) make these strange prices?
Why should 2 journeys on a ferry (or train or tunnel) be priced radically differently depending on the time between the journeys?
Because they have an oligopoly. Why should 2 journeys on a ferry (or train or tunnel) be priced radically differently depending on the time between the journeys?
Speedferries tried to have a fairer pricing system and they went bust.
For you uys who are moaning all I'm intending to do is help out the Pistonheads community. Motoring costs are high enough as it is! If you can cut them where you can then why not! I have NEVER seen a Ferry or the Tunnel fully booked in the 3 years I have been working in Germany and the company's will put you on and fill the spaces anyway.
This chunnel loophole was closed a few years back. You used to be able to do this, but not anymore.
And have you really never seen a full ferry or train? Really? I have been put on later vessels more times then I can remember, despite arriving on time. WE now get there earlier then planned to make sure we can get on the train/ferry we want

We've done this many times, using the same carrier each way. Never had any comeback. I just book the English out leg with the wrong car reg, they've never picked up on this, but if they do I'd just say we changed our mind over which car to take (we actually did once so I know its not an issue for the carrier). I use a different credit card, same name, proper car reg for the return leg. However, more recently with Eurotunnel charging per leg I've found it easier to pick a reasonably priced 'normal' return.

The day returns are subsidised by the cheaper booze shops in France. Why should 2 journeys on a ferry (or train or tunnel) be priced radically differently depending on the time between the journeys?
