I'm flying over to Tenerife with some mates on Wednesday, and have just come to check in online to see that my mate who booked the ticket has spelled my name Domonic rather than Dominic (as on my passport). They want £100 to change the name online and £125 to change it on the phone - is it worth chancing or am I likely to run into trouble if I don't get it changed? Airline is Monarch if that makes any difference!

(Had added this to holidays/travel but expect more people will read it here!)

I had this a while ago.
But I didn't raise any alarm bells,
I just pitched up at the airport desk.
Again, it was similar to yours with a middle charachter wrong.
Not like it was the first letter of your name or any thing really serious.

I am not even sure it was noticed, and I wasn't certainly going to mention it.

125 notes? I'd be inclined to change my name.

I booked a holiday for me and my mates and I spelt one of their surnames wrong. 'madly' instead of 'madely'. Girl at check in spotted it and refused to let him board until we had paid £35 to get a new ticket issued.

Should point out this was shortly after the world trade centre attacks when security was ramped up at all major airports.

That happened to me in a different way, Instead of clicking MR from the drop-down box I clicked MRS so I phoned them up to change it or ask if it was Ok and they said it all would be fine.

Tempted to just chance it then - I'm thinking the worst that can happen is they make me pay to change it there and then? Only thing that worried me was getting stuck either entering or leaving Spain?

It s with Ry----- I assume. I'd leave it, I recently spelled Carolyn Karolyn and there was no problem.

Rule of thumb is 3 letters.

If an aircraft is oversold, they'll be on the lookout for any excuse.

I had similar when I went to Tenerife last month with a few lad, one of the guys had his name spelled different to that on his passport.

We just called them up, flew Monarch as well, and they were happy to correct it over the phone for free as it was an amendment rather than a complete name change, give it a go. smile

Cheers guys - I'll give them a ring, if they say it's the £100 charge I'll chance it!

Thanks all!

Rang them up, all changed within 30 seconds free of charge - really annoys me when people ask questions on here without trying to solve them first with a quick phonecall/email, so I apologise!

I did exactly the same thing - called the wife MR on her ticket. Same thing - phoned the airline who said as long as the names were correct they would not care. Got the sense they would if the names were wrong though.

My wife's name on her ticket from Bali-Jakarta was spelt Roooosemary. The carrier didn't say anything, although that was 11 years ago now and she's been affectionately known as Roo ever since. smile

I'm fairly sure they don't pay much attention to the first name, it's the surname that's most important to them!
