Why is the 1M not available in hatch form?
Discussion
I believe that its based on a shortened m3 platform not that of the 1 series coupe. I think the hatch is shorter still which means that it wouldn't fit without even more work.

Beneath the widened body work lies not a 1-series chassis, but actually a shortened M3 (competition pack spec) chassis (hence the need for the bulging wheelarches), complete with M3 CSL-aping Y-spoke alloys (again the same as you'll find on competition pack-equipped M3s). So there's proper M-car engineering in there - this isn't just a case of some chunky bodywork, a few badges and a smattering of Alcantara (though there is that, too).

Wyat made you think that? I would of thought the hatchback would be longer if anything. From my understanding the 135i and 130i aren't avasilable as a hatch either. The Big G said:

Standard CarsHatch length 4239, wheelbase 2660, rear track 1497, width 1748
Coupe length 4360, wheelbase 2660, rear track 1513, width 1748
1M length 4380, wheelbase 2667, rear track 1541, width 1803
Rear overhang on coupe is 949 compared to 828 for the hatch.

I suspect the simple reason it's not available in hatch form is that the hatch is at the end of its life - a new 1-Series hatch will be shown at the Frankfurt motor show in September, if not before. The coupe (and convertible) have another couple of years left in them, though the engine is probably on run out. The N54 twin turbo engine is only used in the US 335iS, the Z4 (iS?) and 740i, everything else uses the newer Valvetronic single twinscroll turbo.
Even if the current hatch still had life in it, I doubt they'd have made one as it would be "another hot hatch" and they'd be less likely to get the money they want for it.
