Iranian nuke scientists are killed in this manner over a few years: A motorcycle rides up in traffic and places a "sticky" bomb on the passenger window and rides off, the mini-bomb goes off killing only the scientist, 007 style. This is interesting. Two schools of thought:

1) It is the Israelis, CIA, MI-6, or assorted Western interests.

2) It is Saudia Arabia because there is an undercurrent battle between the Arab Saudis and the Persian Iranians for dominance in both the ME and the Islamic "world".

While the first option comes to mind right away, the second makes sense when we understand that there are others in the ME besides just Israel that do not want a nuclear Iran.

What are PH thinkers' takes on this?

Actually, I think it's the Iranians doing the killing.

Most of the Iranian nuclear infrastructure is in place and of a sufficient level to do what they need to do to make their bombs. The funny thing about scientists is that they like a bit of intellectual debate, which often translates to speaking out. Now their job is done they become a liability.

I think it's an enormous can of worms and that the likes of you and I will never truly know the answer. Lockerbie and the Iranian embassy siege are just two such cases that spring to mind. There'll be theories, counter-theories and the plain old crackpots.

There must also be so many other factors, many that we're not even aware of, to make it impossible to speculate accurately. Don't get me wrong, it intrigues me, I just think that any time I spent thinking about it would be the equivalent of chasing my own tail.

See? The crackpots are here already wink

If they knock of their scientists who will run the reactors? Who will upgrade them? Who will build the next phase of the plan for world domination?

As Jim says, it could be any number of entities simply doing some fairly small scale actions to undermine, and make uneasy the rest of the Iranian nuclear fraternity. After Stuxnet, and it's discovery and removal, maybe this is the next step? Has the IAEA found anything that suggests they are doing anything untoward? Haven't heard anything.

I would say prime suspect number 1 are the Israelis, there was evidence they went after and killed the scientist in Dubai and they know the UN won't touch them with all the pro-Jew support of the US administration.

What I don't really understand is the revulsion folks have for Iranians having nuclear power. There is a long way between fuel sufficient for nuclear fuel, and purifying it so it is suitable for weapons. Why, exactly, do the Israelia, or Saudis don't what them to have electricity?

Who will run the reactors? Not the people that designed them. Who will upgrade them? Nobody will, they've got the equipment they need to get weapons grade uranium.

They have no need for theoretical nuclear scientists any more - so if they're undesirable from a philosophical point of view, why not get rid of them?

I've read countless suggestions that it's the Israelis. As others have pointed out, they have a history of carrying out this type of killing. I've not read any suggestion anywhere that suggest the Saudis are behind this have ever done this kind of thing (until now).

It's not for electricity. Its for self-defense. They've learned from what the US has done in the cases of Iraq, Pakistan, and North Korea.

What suggests to you that they are doing it for self defense? They have moves facilities into bunkers, but is this because of sneak attacks from elsewhere, or for nafaripis reasons? All I can find with regards to nefarious motives is a dodgy essay that seems to crop up on paranoid websites. The IAEA haven't said anything about them going to weapons grade material.

That is a very interesting angle and a very warranted opinion. yes

Not neccessarily. If a regime operates as an autocracy, or oligharchy at best, then secrecy and control are paramount when dealing with something as cloak and dagger as nukes are to Iran. It becomes is tinfoil haberdashery if applied to the U.K for example; when overlayed with Iran, less of a stretch IMO. smile

The U.N. rarely touch more than themselves anyway, but that's another discussion. wink

There you go. Reactor operators/maintainers are not the same cut of people.
