Morning all.

Would anyone remember a programme watched at schools years ago (circa 1981 ish) that involved a blue boy from outer space? No one seems to remember it so I'm not sure if I'm cracking up! It was about the time we were watching Dark Towers at school.

I don't remember him being blue - but I do remember he spoke and wrote backwards - and he was called Peep Peep.

I think it was from Look and Read that had Wordy on it. Also did another school programmed called Dark Tower.

My memory is amazing for useless information!

I remember this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9MXx9xej10

I also remember a fat dude that was meant to be from space, the kids kept him hidden and took him out sometimes. Was he blue or orange?

I can just about remember this aswell.

How about Skyhunter, the one with the Peregrine Falcon. Also remember one called Fairground. Similar sort of thing.

I remember How We Used To Live, and something that had a cubeface with white arms floating in the corner.

My memories are of the 70s. We didn't have schools TV in Ireland but if ever I was off school for any reason, I used to watch school TV on ITV or BBC.

The programme that sticks in mty memory for some odd reason is "Picture Box".

And of course, the countdown clock was quite iconic.

It was called The boy From Space. Very scarey when watched as an 8 year old in a darkened school canteen on a wooden cased TV. Worst bit was when the dad got his red austin stick in mud and the aliens were walking towards him. Episode ended on that cliff hanger, can't remember what happened next.

I preferred Dark Towers. It was about an antique dealer trying to take advantage of a young girl who had inherited an old house. Christopher Biggins was her side kick and a ghostly knight was trying to protect the house and its contents from them. i always remember one scarey episode when the 'hero' young girl broke it to the old dusty coach house and found a note down the cushions of an old horse drawn coach that gave her a clue to something.

I think the series after Dark Towers was Geordie Racer. It may or may not have led to a spin off - Byker Grove.

Do they still make these types of TV programs?

I don't think so.

There's no room in the schedules. They'd have to take of superior programming such as Jeremy Kyle or Trishia.

In reality, the advent of the VHS recorder signalled the beginning of the end for broadast educational programming - coupled with the growth of daytime TV.

Up until 1972, TV was not allowed to start broadcasting "normal" TV until about 4.00 pm. The 9.00 am to 3.00 pm slots were available for schools TV and Open University. When afternoon TV began, schools broadcasting began to be squeezed out. By the end of the 1980s, there was hardly any space left for it in the schedules.

Now, educational programmes can be shown on DVDs or downloaded.

Did anyone else pretend to "shoot" the blobs on the countdown clock as it ticked off? Just our class then smile

Slightly off topic but anyone remember a 1970's BBC kids series called "Striker" about a young lad and his dad who lived in a caravan? The Dad was a crocked ex-footballer and reluctantly let his son play with the local team.. Kind of a proto-type Murphy's Mob or Jossy's Giants, only better. Would love to watch it again on DVD if it ever gets a release.

I do remember a physics programme that showed a car being thrashed and it's disc brakes getting red hot. Might have been a mk1 escort

I remember that. Wasn't there something to do with wolves?

ETA - ah, no, that was Box of Delights. Picture Box was independent stories wasn't it?
