Top Gear question....
Discussion
Before anyone starts the normal
'if you dont like it then dont wach it' argument, i will say I Love Top Gear, i know its not really a 'car' program as such anymore, just entertainment. But thats why i watch it, if i want to learn details i will turn elsewhere.
Question is though, after watching a repeat on Dave his morning i started wondering how does Jeremy get away with hooning on the road?
It was the episode where he raced God accross the UK in a new Jag, he clearly he chucked the Jaaaaaag through a roundabout sideways on the A303.
Im not having a go at his driving, i just want to know how and if they clear it with the poo-leece, it is after all a public highway and they have the evidence to proove he was doing it....
Yes, its a booring Sunday afternoon.

Because they wisely never show his speedo so there is no evidence as such that he is speeding.
I did kind of figure that, they often show the rev counter but never speedo.davepoth said:
Also the roundabout was deserted. And probably it was more than 6 months after the date of the alleged offence when they showed it.
Didnt realise that there was such a loophole... is that for any motoring offence? The 6 month limit applies to summary only offences so would not apply to dangerous driving.
"Jeremy Clarkson had a long face today when it was finally revealed he had a long face"
I don't believe any official statement from the BBC and have long believed most of the fast driving for any of the 3 presenters is done by professionals. Even Tiff and Plato get it wrong and I imagine the insurance premiums for an amateur would be through the roof.

Could you explain the difference please?. Genuine question as I am not sure what you mean.
Summary offences are those which can only be tried in the magistrates court and includes offences like no licence, insurance*, excess alcohol and driving without due care. Either way offences are those which carry higher sentences of over 6 months. The 6 month limit applies to charge or ISSUE of a summons (service of the summons does not have to be within the 6 months as many avoid it like the plague).
- there are provisions for charging outside the 6 month limit in certain circumstances though with an insurance database, this is going to be a far more rare occurence.

Great extrapolation except one is a "factual" programme, the others all fictional.Daily Mail, tomorrow:

A bit more akin to Wheeler Dealers not actually restoring the cars at all but getting them done by someone else and simply claiming to have restored them.
Unlike cookery programmes where the cook claims to have cooked something that was done by lackies behind the scenes but in that case there is little doubt the cook COULD cook it.
It's an entertainment show, I think the only time TG has EVER claimed to be a strictly factual show was the second US special when their Visa required it.
And frankly I don't care.
It's well known most of the tracking shots of the long international races are done before/after the race, after-all given the cars they've used DB9, SLR, Veyron etc it wouldn't be much of a race if JC had to stop every 20 mins for the Rangie full of camera equipment could catch up, so I don't have an problem if some of the tracking shots at the track or out on the road are done with someone else driving.
