Previous owner has obviously used a car wash on regular basis so my car is covered in swirls and being 10 years old has collected a few random scratches. Have had a go removing these by hand with very little results so can anyone reccomend what to use or do I just go for a machine polish ? It's a Boxster - so believe the paint is pretty hard ?

If you don't want the hassle/expense of a machine polish, you could alway use a polish with a high filler content, which will improve the appearance of the swirls and scratches. Over time they will come back so you'll have to keep redoing this. Something like (but not exclusively) Poorboys blackhole, which is a glaze could be used after polishing. I think you'd need to seal this in with a wax or sealer too. Which polish you use for hand working is another subject, but for ease of supply, Autoglym SRP isn't the worst you could use: It is a filler and sealant too. Just don't use too much at a time as it goes very dusty.

You could use a something to partiually temporarily fill in the swirl marks however for the best results, and to get rid of them completely you'd really need to have the car machine polished.

I'm based in Glasgow and specialise in removing swirl marks and scratches so feel free to give me a call / email me (details in profile) if you're looking to get it machine polished or even just want some advice.

Thanks

Robert

Your best bet would have it machine polished. The usual cost's about £100.I worked in a porsche body shop for 10years in harston Cambridge. Its bests left to the professionals.Unless you are willing to learn. You will need a electric polisher with variable speed.Three different types of polish, and mop heads.

i was a fan of 3m polishes a long time ago, then i took my blinkers off, i'm not
a stranger to the bodyshop enviroment lol at all. i just like to keep up with time
saving products, after all time = £££, but without sacrificing quality of finish.
OH and no need to shout graham lol, i dont take life to seriously : )
