The Champagne region in France.

Maybe I missed the good bits of Champagne last year but I found it terminally dull.
After spending 5 days in Beaune a couple of months ago we drove into the Champagne region intending to stay for 4 nights. Left after 1 night. It was like going to Chelmsford. To be fair the weather had been beautiful until we moved North when it started hammering down, so that may have 'clouded' our judgement.
We stopped off near Reims on the way back from Germany a couple of weeks ago. There's a museum in Verzenay which is OK for an hour or so. It's right in the middle of the vineyards and tells you a lot about the region and how they make the champagne. Interesting, but wouldn't spend huge amounts of time.
In Reims, besides the Catherdral, there is also the room where they accepted the German surrender. It's been kept as it was - amazing piece of history. Oh - and Reims is dead on a Sunday.
Best plan though is to go back to your hotel and get smashed on Champagne. Highlight for me !

I've been wondering if it's possible to cycle around the various champagne houses as a short break.
Do most of them do tasting sessions, and if so do they charge much?
How far apart do they tend to be? If I was to cycle about 50 miles a day would I get around them in a four day holiday?
