Unofficial: Viper ACR Posts 7m 12s 'Ring Time

Viper to Lexus: our car is faster than yours... (thumbs nose)

A Viper ACR. Not at the Nurburgring
A Viper ACR. Not at the Nurburgring
Whenever a car manufacturer, journalist or blogger brags about a new Nurburgring time for a particular car, the descent into a 'my car is faster than yours, nah nah na-naah nah' mentality is, for some, almost inevitable.

Therefore (and despite there being no such thing as an official production car Nordschleife record), when a Lexus LF-A was clocked recently at 7mins 14secs, it was more than likely we would soon be hearing from Dodge, after they set the bar at 7mins 22secs back in 2008 with an MY09 Viper ACR.

Sure enough, according to Viper Club of America president Marv Spatz, a Viper ACR has reportedly just reclaimed the title with an unofficial time of "7:12 and change" courtesy of a pair of 2010 Viper ACR models, imported over by Tomball Dodge of Texas and prepped by Mintgen Motorsports, just down the road from the Nordschleife.

Of course, it would be churlish to mention that this is still some way off the (road-registered) Radical SR8LM's time of 6mins 48secs, posted in 2009 by Michael Vergers. So we won't...

It's good to see you didn't mention the Radical SR8LM's time of 6mins 48secs,set by Michael Vergers in 2009, as that really would have been pure one upmanship over the Yanks, & that just wouldn't be very sporting would it? wink Let's just hope it remains unmentioned throughout this thread....

Oh yes, the Radical SR8LM's time of 6mins 48secs,set by Michael Vergers in 2009. No, I quite deliberately did not mention it. Would not be at all sporting. biglaugh

Isn't there a road registered car some 23s ahead of that? Can't remember which but it was a Radical time... wink

One of the days I was there last week there were 3 ACRs and an LFA storming around the track. Very very quick and great sounds from both cars.

When 'The Verge' set a time of 6mins 48secs in the Radical SR8LM in 2009, it was on road legal tread pattern tyres.

Did anyone mention it is a British (English) Car rather than one from the Land of the Free or the Land of the Rising Sun?

As we're British, i find quite tasteless & immature to keep bragging about having a record laptime set by this car....

Scraping the bottom of feeble excuses this early in a thread's life?

Did anyone mention that the RADICAL SR8 LM's time set two years ago was 23secs faster than this new 'record'? hehe

Let's hope The Verge persuades Peterborough (that's in England you know yikes) to take the latest even more stiffer chassis RX back there next year; just a question of how close to a whole one minute faster that'll be.

I don't know why people say their fed up with ring attics between manufacturers, I think its exciting especially when it's road cars.

The Ring in 6 minutes 48 seconds? That's a bit Radical isn't it?

I do agree that the Radical SR8LM which did a lap of the Nurburgring in 6mins 48secs is a production car and can be compared to the Viper, obviously in a comparison that makes the Viper slower. Oh and it's British by the way. Just in case that hadn't already been mentioned.

That's all really

The ACR time and that of the LFA are awesome - no argument there at all.

They are, of course, both road car chassis/bodies, albeit with some 'minor' tweeks.

The Radical, whilst sporting number plates, lights, etc, is not usable as a road car from a normal a to b perspective. A bog standard pothole would demolish the poor thing. And I know, there are very few potholes, if any, on the 'ring. On the drive there from many parts of the UK to the 'ring and back I'm sure there would be a few though.

Come on Porsche, what are you waitng for? Bring back a road legal 956/962 and blow the Radical into last week. smile
