Thought this worth a mention.

Sony is looking at a potential recall of up to 1.6 million of its best-selling 40-inch Bravia LCD televisions, following incidents of hot TVs emitting smoke and parts melting the upper casing due to faulty components.

Sony is denying a major product recall, but is initiating free inspections for owners of the affected TVs.

Sony admits to at least 11 such burning incidents, all of which took place in Japan. The company is concerned that the faulty parts could have made it into Bravia liquid-crystal display TVs sold around the world.

The affected TVs were manufactured in 2007 and 2008.
The model numbers are Bravia KDL-40D3400, KLD-40D3500, KDL-40D3550, KDL-40D3660, KDL-40V3000, KDL-40W3000, KDL-40X3000, KDL-40X3500.

In a statement Sony reached out to customers of its potentially over-heating Bravia sets: “Sony is voluntarily initiating a free inspection, and if necessary a free repair to reassure you that these product smeet your expectations,' the company said.

“If you own one of the products mentioned above, we invite you to contact your nearest Service Cetnre to arrange an inspection of your TV. Sony's service representative will visit to check your TV and will repair it as promptly as possible if it has the affected component.”
