Hi guys, got some su's of ebay to replace my shi**y strombergs, but having some niggles setting them up.
The guy said they where ok, and had recenlty been balanced but he was obv lying lol, typical ebay.
Basically it starts ok if i tickle the throttle idling at 900-1000 rpm or so, but then if i rev it it sticks at 2000 rpm, and fuel is dripping at quite a rate out the overflow pipes.
IF i stick it in drive (its an auto) the revs drop off and it ok then and idles back at 900-1000 again, but still dripping till up on the revs.
The dash pots where dry and the sliders v.dirty so cleaned them all out. I didnt have any 3 in 1 oil for the pots so just had to use a bit of 10w40 motor oil, and now the sliders have more resistance, but arent dropping down as I would expect, they fall down a bit slowly (possibly my problem)! Could this be the oil is too thick??
thanks for the help, just really want to get the truck sorted before the bad weather comes !!

What SU's are they? HS or HIF's? If fuel's flooding/overflowing it'll be due to float chamber set-up. However, have you set-up fuel flow rate required for V8, from tank to fuel pump to carbs? It may be that they really just need a thoroughly good rebuild and set-up i.e. new springs, set main jet to deck height, check needles/profiles, butterflies, spindles, float chambers etc. Ref' oil try lightest oil as possible to aid piston lift. Sewing machine oil is very good.

Once rebuilt, you should set-up as per usual SU's balancing each carb separately before tightening up each throttle link/linkage. And as it's for an RV8 suggest rolling road tune. Good luck.

Reference flooding...
Are the carbs on the correct manifolds so that the float chambers are level? Fuel level in the chamber is very important.

Has the fuel supply been fitted with the correct fuel pressure regulator? I don't know but would guess no more than 6psi. A high pressure will force its way past the fuel level valve/float.

If the carbs have not been used for some time then a good service will be required.
