fuel escalator has already been been scrapped...
they are also thinking about dropping the 3p that petrol will go up in January when VAT is raised to 20%
Where is the evidence that the Government isn't going ahead with this measure? they are also thinking about dropping the 3p that petrol will go up in January when VAT is raised to 20%

From the comments:"My job was moved to a base 15 miles away, i had no say in this. There is a bus every 2 hours, so it's not an option to use this, and anyway I sometimes need to go and visit clients in an emergency, so I need a car at work, and one isn't provided. My wage hasn't gone up in 3 years. I live in the country. Would the muesli-knitting brigade care to tell me how to manage?"
Must be a PHer.
I quite like muesli

Fuel prices haven't reflected the price of oil for at least 3 years or so.
this is due to continual tax risesAshVX220 said:
Don't worry, if the government drop the planned increase, the petrol stations will add it on anyway.
The petrol stations make bugger all from the sale of petrol as these graphs demonstrateEdited by jbi on Tuesday 15th November 14:00
It's not what it's worth.
It's what people will, and do pay.
That's supply and demand - if it's in demand (in this case, it's always in demand!), you cancharge tax what you like.
If you overdo it andcharge tax too much, demand drops and you lower your price tax for a bit.
Then you creep it back up until what was 'expensive' a year or so ago becomes 'cheap'.
Sheeple have short memories.

Is Duty a percentage, or a fixed rate?
Can't beleive diesel is that expensive per unit either...I was under the impression it took barely any effort to refine, compared with petrol?
petrol is a by-product of diesel iirc Can't beleive diesel is that expensive per unit either...I was under the impression it took barely any effort to refine, compared with petrol?
