Thought this might have been asked before but nothing has cropped up in search.

I’m spending Christmas overseas this year and would like to take some crackers as a gift to my hosts. Does anyone know whether you are allowed to carry crackers in your hold luggage? I’m finding conflicting answers via Google and there is no definitive answer on the airline’s website (I don’t want to pay a 30p a minute phone to spend 20 minutes on hold).

Christmas crackers. Provided the Christmas crackers are in their original retail packaging, they may be carried by passengers. Check with your airline as some airlines have decided not to allow the carriage of crackers. (See below for party poppers.)

Party poppers MUST NOT be carried by passengers. (See above for Christmas Crackers.)
So who's the airline?

Two lots of flights involved, first with Flybe and then KLM.

Past experience with Flybe tells me if they can find a way to be awkward or charge more money they will. Never flown with KLM before.

Christmas crackers can be carried in the hold of the aircraft but are restricted to one unopened box of 12 crackers per passenger. Sparklers and party poppers are not permitted onboard or in the hold of the aircraft.
Can't be arsed doing your googling for KLM wink

Hence why I said from the outset that Google is giving me conflicting answers and I can't find definitive answers the airline's websites.

You could call the airline and ask.

Kudos

email them, get it in writing. Phonecall is useless if the check in person says no

Just put them in your hold luggage and forget about them, I'm sure you'll be fine. If not, they won't be there when you arrive!
