Ky kids are now of an age when taking them out of school is not desirable. We've tended to go to Florida in late April/May in the past when the parks are busy but not ridiculously busy. Still queues but tolerable ones (I've had far worse at Chessington).

So my interest has turned to the school summer holidays but I'm a bit concerned that the parks will be jam-packed which will destroy the point as we have a 3 year old to juggle as well. Has anyone any exeperience of this period.

If it's going to be chocka, I'd rather go to the Carribean or somewhere like that but my 6 year old son is more concerned with Vipers and Corvettes than with beaches... I'm not interested in Paris and would guess california is no better.

Personally I would avoid florida in the height of summer simply because of the climate.

I have been to Disneyland (LA in August) and it was pretty busy, but if you are there early its ok. And climate wise pretty OK,

Totally jam packed at the height of summer, have been once and wouldnt do it again. You could always go elsewhere in the summer and Florida for the Oct hols? We too the kids out school last year end Oct into Nov. Got halloween and christmas parades. Not one in the parks hardly apart from parade times and great climate also.

We are going for the 1st time in early July (arrive on the 4th which could be a bit Mad) would have gone in Oct but July is the only time we can have 3 weeks away. Hopefully will head down to Key West via Miami for 4 nights though.

Good advice. US School summer recess is a lot earlier than UK summer holidays, as a result, US kids are all back in class by mid August and the crowds thin-out to some extent, as a result.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. Sadly, my 2 weeks in August are at the beginning so we've decided to pass this year and finish off the Euros somewhere and plan a US trip for 2013, assuming the world hasn't ended. wink

I was going to suggest October as well, we always go then primarly for the Halloween events but if you have younger kids this may not be an option as the events in Universal etc are directed towards older kids and adults. Having said that the Disney Halloween events are great for younger kids, IMO October is the best time for Florida in terms of weather and crowd size.

We went 2010 as soon as the schools broke up, very warm, very humid but just about bearable, queues not too bad (apart from anywhere near Harry Potter in IoA) but loads and loads of Brazilian school kids, in massive groups (all in matching t-shirts), so you had to make sure you got in front of them on rides otherwise the queues were bad!

Going this year, but not until middle of August, so *hopefully* should be a little quieter.

Harry Potter in IOA is always busy regardless of the time of year, we have been in IOA and its been nearly empty yet Harry Potter World was still jam packed.

IoA / Harry Potter is at Universal Studios not Disney. They both get very annoyed if you mix them up smile

And lots of people spending lots of dollars disagree with you re Harry Potter! WWoHP is the most successful park - it's reckoned that the ride alone returned it's cost (US$120m+) in additional profit in less than 18 months. And the merch, it's all about the merch - they literally can't sell the stuff fast enough! Hence, if the rumours on the 'net are to be believed obviously, they are expanding the HP part of the park by ripping out the Jaws water ride and putting in another HP themed coaster.

I've been in both June and November, Novermber was still very warm, around 25C for virtually the whole 2 weeks, so still shorts and t-shirts. Disney parks were quieter during the weekdays, but still pretty busy at the weekend. Only went to Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios in June, we got the fast track tickets for Hollywood, but still ended up queuing for about an hour for both Tower of Terror and Rock n Roll Coaster...

I'd really try an avoid between June and end of August. Also, into September time is usually storm season, I can remember some friends of mine being told to stay indoors for a couple of days due to the weather when they went in Sept about 7 or 8 years ago iirc...

Sure all the merchandise sells, parents get their kids all hyped up about it and then they have to buy them stuff or the kids will whine and bh for the rest of the holiday and beyond.

Not sure how they work out that the ride paid for itself already given that you buy a ticket for the entire park, I suppose they attribute any upturn in ticket sales to it.

We were there last year and did the ride purely cos it was new and all thought it was pants. Watching a few big tv screens whilst the chair jiggles about a bit hardly sets you on edge.

It was exactly the same when the Simpsons ride supplanted Back To The Future - essentially the same ride with a different video screen.
