I'm off to Paris in Feb, and instead of relying on the normal overground train to get me from Windsor to St Pancras, i was planning on driving and leaving the car there for a few days.

Had a look on the Eurostar website, and it mentions that there is an NCP outside, but it doesn't mention costs. Does anyone know how much this is likely to be?

also had a look on the parkatmyhuose website, and have found somehwere a 5 min walk away for 11 quid a day. That's 33 quid for parking.

Anyone else have any other ideas or options for this? Thanks!

I would really, very strongly, recommend leaving the car at home and train it in. Central London is simply not geared up for long term or even medium term parking unless you want to either pay fortunes or run the risk of no car when you return.

If you don't fancy hauling bags on the tube, get a cab from Waterloo to St Pancras. It will probably cost you about the same as a day's parking in an NCP.

If you really, really want to use your car, you'd be better off driving to Ebbsfleet or Ashford and leaving it there.

Taxi to/from Windsor probably wouldn't be much cheaper than parking nearby..

Why on earth would you do that, OP? Seems a bit silly to me.

St Pancras NCP = c £25 per 24 hours.
Kings Cross Motors (5 mins walk away on Balfe St) £20 per 24 hours. Can be less by negotiation (I pay £12 per day as I use it once or twice a week min.)

Could be plenty of reasons - for instance an early departing Eurostar for instance (meaning you might not be able get a train to St Pancras and cross London in time for departure).

NCP parking at St Pancras is £36 per day - deliberately eyewatering I would guess.

http://www.parkopedia.co.uk/ might find you something nearby and cheaper.

Edit - and travelling from Slough/Paddington/King's Cross via the Circle line would be much easier that coming via Waterloo too.

Yes indeed - only read the Windsor bit after I'd posted. For that journey from Windsor I'd definitley consider train via Paddington or taxi.

That reminds me of the best taxi ride I've had from Central London to Reading after a night out, cost us £50, between four of us (was a few years back now), in an S-Class, and once we hit the M4 we didn't go slower than 120mph! The driver was in a big hurry and we were all (not the driver, but possibly ;-) ) drunkenly going weeeeeheeeeehheeeee all the way home!

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Think i'll leave the car at home then! As someone mentioned, it was only because our Eurostar train departs at 07:50am or something silly, and the first train from Datchet got us into St Pancras at about 07:15am which i thought was a bit tight and didn't leave much room for error!

Datchet station is a 30 sec walk from the GF's house, but would it be easier to go from Slough straight into Paddington and just get a cab from there? Sounds like a better option to me! Anything to avoid London Underground with suitcases!!

Slough -> Paddington in 37 mins, then 5 minute taxi from paddingotn to st pancras! sounds like the best way to do it?

Windsor Cars is a good shout aswell. I use them all the time and they are the cheapest taxi firm around here by miles!

Paddington to Kings Cross via the Circle line is pretty direct (sit at the back of the train in to get to the old Hammersmith & City - the new "correct" platform, then go to the front of the tube train platform to get the quickest walk at the St Pancras end). I'd say it's ok if you have baggage and you are physically able, but there are a couple of flights of stairs to negotiate at both ends. I've done it a few times with wheely suitcases, and hasn't really been a huge bother, but I understand people like to travel without having to stress about things like this!

Black cabs should be available if you get there early (5 minutes is optimistic, I'd allow 20 mins at least), you have to walk round to the side of the opposite side of the station and bear in mind there might be a big queue with commuters, though very early should be ok.

How far is the walk from Kings Cross tube to St Pancras then? That could be the best option i reckon. Could just buy a travel card that way and be done with it?! What zone travelcard would that fall under?
When i go to the o2 i alwyas have to buy all zones, but i don't think that'll be the case here? pretty confusing!

You'll need an all zones Travel Card (you're travelling from or through zone 6 to zone 1).

When you emerge from Kings Cross tube, you'll enter into a large ticket hall, turn left, up two short flights of steps, turn right and you're in St Pancras. The tube station joins both Kings Cross and St Pancras stations which are literally on the opposite side of one road to one another.

Circle or Hammersmith and Fulham line from Paddington to Kings X is about 10 to 12 mins. Only thing to bear in mind is that the platform at Paddington for the H&F line can get stupidly congested so depending on the time of day, might be more comfortable on the Circle Line.

I'm glad I found this thread (after trawling the travel board due to the search being knackered!), but I am a little concered as my plan was similar to the op.
Travelling with two young children and not bring from London, I didn't want to trawl around the London tubes, so we decided to depart from St Pancras and use the parkatmyhouse.co.uk website, the only logic bring is it's a company car, and train costs for a single adult one way are a min £55! The website offers prices from £11-£16 ish a night to park, so we thought it was with a gamble for tne price of fuel and £70 for a few days parking.

If anyone has any other ideas that seem better then it would be much appreciated.

There are some remarkably reasonable underground car parks in the Russell Sqaure area attached to the tourist hotels. This is 10 minute walk from St Pancras

http://www.ccparking.co.uk/

I used the one next to the Bedford Hotel when we drove in for my daughter's graduation at LSE. I reckon you could possibly negotiate a multi-day stay. Worth asking.

The Royal National is the cheapest at £17 for 24 hours and also the closest.

My brothers solution to this problem was slightly alternative. Park on the yellow lines outside the station as you are running late. End of weekend car gets towed but is at least in a secure pound!
