I have been working for a company for 12 months and this is the first time i have not received the full amount for my mileage.

Currently i receive 18p per mile. (this was 16p up to September)

In the past 12 months i have covered 6142 business miles and have been informed by one of my colleagues that i can claim the difference between 16/18p and the 40/45p that the government rates are set at.

I have calculated the value of the difference from what i get paid to what the government pay to be £1718.71. (£2742 - £1023)

I am a 40% tax earner so i believe that i should be owed £687.48.

How do i go about claiming this as i have never done this before is it the p87 or do i need tax assessment?

Thanks

The 45p/40p rate only applies to employees who use their own cars. Is this you?

For company car drivers, the Advisory Fuel Rate is currently 18p per mile (1401cc to 2000cc engine) - it was 16p per mile for 1 March 2011 to 31 May 2011.

You can't claim back the total difference. Just either the lower or higher rate of tax on the £1718.71.
