Obviously a rarity on a forum about driving but thought it would be interesting to hear of any cars, past or present, that you had come across where they had hardly been driven, which is a waste really.

I'll start.

My old Grandad sadly passed away last year leaving his 2003 Nissan Almera, which he bought new having run a Volvo 340 GL for ever and ever. At the time the Almera had done <10k miles I think, drove to town once a week and to our house which is about half a mile. Even now being driven up and down to uni by my sis its only done 13k, not bad for a car approaching 9 years old.

It's incredibly common in the world of motorbikes. You can often find 5/6/7 year old bikes with little more than 1,000 miles on them. A friend of mine bought a 4-year old Ducati 999 with 800 miles on the clock. Superbonkerscrazy.

An elderly relative of mine had a Rover 100 Kensington from new for about 10 years. It had about 14k when she came to replace it with her Yaris. She now drives significantly LESS than when she put such an intergalatic mileage on the Rover so the Yaris can't have many miles!

My first car was a 1965 Triumph Vitesse 6, with one owner from new before me. I got the car in 1987 when it was 22 years old, with less than 20,000 miles on it. It quite literally belonged to an elderly couple who went to church in it once a week, and odd trips to the supermarket.

My Next door neighbour had a 6/7 year old Daihatsu sirion with just a 1000 miles on the clock and she bought it with 600 miles already on the clock so all she did in that time was 400 miles.
But its quite understandable would you want to be seen in a Daihatsu.

And my Fathers old neighbour had a Micra which he bought new in 02 and he never drove it, as he decided he rather use his free bus pass, its recently been moved as he has now gone into a home.
Lots of people would knock on my Fathers door asking about the car, but a new car which has been standing under trees on a drive for 10 years is going to need a bit more than a Jump start I think to get it running.

I had a 1963 ford Anglia which I bought in about 1996 for £100 which had done a genuiune 20,000 but saying that it had been stuck under a car port since 1970 lol.
Also it was knackered but the seats were in lovely condition, it had rusted basically from the inside out and of course the engine was seized.

this got a 98 ninja with 8 thousand miles on the clock. The last owner only did 300 a year for about 4 years mental! I managed 5000 in 6 months whilst using the car.

I got my 309 at 22 years with 35,300 miles on the clock. It has stamps in the service book to verify the annual mileage for the first 20 years and 21,000 miles; some years it only did 700 miles...

There's no record of servicing for the two years after this (and it needed one - the oil was like molasses and the coolant looked like cappucino hehe , but the air filter was brand new silly ).

I make a note in my diary of servicing etc - reminds me, I really must update the service book. It's now settled down to about 5,000 miles a year, and is just about to turn the big half century.

Not bad for £300 smile .

My Mustang is 2 years old and only has 3000 or so miles on it, does that count?

Most of them have been sideways however biggrin

Dad's old mk3 GTi 16v was bought at 5 years old with 7k on the clock. It needed loads of work doing as all the rubber had perished, etc!

Just sold my Mum's old Astra. 22 years old (the car, not my Mum), bought new and only 15,000 miles on the clock. Always garaged and serviced annually and still 100% like new. She used to use it once or twice a week to go to the shops which was only a couple of miles or go to her hairdressers which was less than a mile. Unfortunately my father thought it must be worth a fortune as it was like a new car but I had to break it to him that it was only worth a few quid.

When my grandfather died a couple of years ago, his Astra sat in the garage for a while before my mum decided to take it on to replace her aging Dagenham dustbin. The Astra was a 51 plate (one of the first, Grandad used to work for GM and still got preferential treatment from Vauxhall - though whether ownership of an Astra was preferential, I don't know) and had just over 9,000 miles on it.

It was serviced on exactly the same date every year (unless it was a Sunday) and in the last 12 months of his ownership it covered 364 miles - 20 miles of which was the round trip to have it serviced. Its quite an economical little thing with a huge fuel tank for its size so I reckon he filled it once in 12 months.

When my previous car was imported to the UK in 2009 it had 18k km on it from new in 1998. Not sure if stupid low milages are a good thing over all as it means the car has not been driven much or has had a million 1/2 mile journeys.

My first car when i was 17 was a 22k mile 1995 Audi A4 1.6. I think i put on about another 20k in the space of 2 years - i don't think it knew what had hit it!

I bought a 1967 austin 1100 for my son to learn to drive in 3 years ago, it's still only got 31,000 miles on it. However to be honest it was too good for a teenager to use so I took it off him stuck it into the garage and bought him a fabia instead !. Those cars do turn up, I think back in the day you used a car much less.

I bought a ten year old Z3 2.8 with 33,000 miles on and it is now up to 50,000 in the 4 years that i have had it. In June 2011 i bought a 55 reg focus with 26,000 miles on it and have put 12,000 miles on it since then.
Both have been utterly reliable.

I bought a 1993 Micra from a family friend in 2008 with only 23,000 on the clock.

Mate of mine last year bought a 2001 Astra with 20,000 on it.

Finally 6 months ago I bought a 2008 Grand Picasso with only 10,000 on it. It still even has that new car smell and doesn't have a mark or scratch on it. Even the engine bay was clean enough to eat off when I bought it although it's a little dirty now after all this gritting and snowing.

The in laws do about 5 miles a week in their car, not sure of the mileage on it currently.

When we were discussing this recently, due to a flat battery, FIL did not think he put fuel in the in 2011.

On checking it was last filled up in November 2010 and still has a 1/4 of a tank left! As their mileage has dropped significantly recently (!!) we think that he may be able to put off filling it until 2013.
