Musings on Civil War

Just a bit of random musing...

It seems, when you look at stable democracies, most have been through some sort of civil war/revolution in their past.
England, America, France, Spain etc.

Now it would appear that you aren't allowed to have a civil war without the UN or others poking their nose in and trying to stop it.

Is a civil war a phase a country has to go through to ultimately become a democracy?

Should we just let syria/lybia/afghanistan just get on with it?

I don't think it is our right to tell other nations how to run themselves. We are far from perfect.

There was quite a lot of nose poking in the previous civil wars you mentioned as well, it was a lot more direct nose poking than the UN is ever likely to do (think Condor Legions in Spain).

Before modern technology a civil war somewhere didn't have much in the way of worldwide ramifications, unless it directly affected the trade and/or prestige of one of the great empires. If it did, stand by for some serious nose poking with troops and ships.

I sometimes thing the same about industrial revolutions.
The west has done it's smokey period, and has decided no one else is allowed to have one now either.

Yes, Syria, Libya are perfect examples. Iraq now dominated by the Shias.

Do third parties get involved with a civil war in a poor country more than in rich countries?
