We bought a rooted fir in a pot, intending to keep it as a garden plant. The pot is large enough, but recently the needles have started to yellow at the edges. Does this mean it's too wet, too dry, underfed or overfed? Not that we've been feeding it.

Any advice please?

Sounds like natural needle wastage to me... The needles do not last forever, they do yellow and drop allowing for fresh growth.

I'm not familiar with your particular 'species', but one in one of my customers gardens yellows slightly every summer/autumn, then comes back full green by October/Winter.

Is this a rooted tree? Sometimes companies just chop the bottom of the tree and stick it in a pot!

Yes, it is rooted. We moved it from the pot supplied into a much larger pot.
