Hi all,

I set off very quickly from the lights today (not 100% intentional) and the car made a snapping noise and ever since then the gearstick is alot more wobbly and it makes a noise in 1st gear. It drives fine apart from that. Has anyone got any suggestions as what it could be(apart from very expensive)? I don't know alot about gearboxes so any info would be helpful.

Car is RWD if that helps, something to do with the diff maybe? confused

Thanks

330d?

Could be the engine / gearbox mounts.

Does the noise increase or decrease on opening or trailing throttle?

Is the noise present in every gear?

Is there less noise in the front of the car or more noise than in the rear.

It could be gearbox or diff trouble.

If you really want a diagnosis a recording with video and sound on a laptop posted on here should enable someone to form an opinion.

My guess is gearbox.

1. Only on heavy throttle

2. First gear only, maybe a little noise in 2nd but its hard to tell

3. Front of the car, sounds like its the flywheel/clutch location but I could well be wrong, as above its kinda hard to tell

Car is a 330d, thanks

Problem with all monococque cars is that sounds transfers through the monococque and identifying the source is tricky.

I still think gearbox from your description.
