Probably another really stupid question, but every time I open the bonnet I'm meaning to ask this since it always takes me ages to get it closed paperbag

When I try to close it in the method I use for other cars (drop it from about 4-5 inches so the catch locks it in place) the catch just stays there and refuses to move! If I try to hold the catch back all I do is trap my fingers frown

I was always told never to push the bonnet down as it can dint it, so what's the correct method for closing the bonnet?

Or actually on 2nd thoughts could it be the catch just needs oiling?

Opened mine twice today. Closed according to the handbook which is when it gets to the point of dropping on its own then let it go and it shuts firmly. Worked for me.

Tried that and it didn't work. I guess it's the catch that needs oiling then.

Probably mouldy, like the rest of the vehicle me old mate.

I just let it drop from about 6 inches smile

No mould on the car, I bought a toothbrush for cleaning one little bit of the roof that had a tiny bit of green on it and now it's spotless smile

It's more likely it's because the bonnet is never lifted smile

More TLC to your catches!
Aluminium bonnets are notorious for bending if you push down on them to close them

That's why I didn't push down, I just used a little piece of metal to keep the catch open whilst I closed it smile

Mine locks cleanly from 4 inches nerd

Are they ali on the DB9? Pretty sure they're composite on the V8V.

On the V8, you help it home "firmly" in the last 6in-12in or so. However do this too hard and the seals get trapped and look unsightly so there's a definite knack to it (which usually involves leaving opening and closing it to the servicing agent biggrin).

The bonnet is alloy on the V8V (and the DB9).

I bring the bonnet (MY09 V8V) to the point at which the latch engages the "safety catch," and then drop it from there (about 3"). Works perfectly -- it doesn't fall from too high and make me cringe, and it closes with the rubber seal properly seated.
