A court order has been obtained to make UK ISPs block Pirate Bay

So let me get this straight just so it's clear in my head.

The courts want to block access to a site that allows access to copyrighted material.

That's Google fked then.

Not really.

Google is totally different to TPB. The TPB is (AFAIK) soley in existence to facilitate copyright infrignement - whereas its just a byproduct of what Google does.

Google does already block copyrighted content but could no doubt be forced to do more.

I doubt there'll even be any need to get around it. PirateBay will, and have in the past, setup mirrors to get around any filters.

I was reading a little about TPB once, and the actual site is tiny.. it can be downloaded onto a thumb drive. They have a complex and interesting system of servers and routing that keeps the site so resilient.

I'm not too bothered about TPB, but I hate the thought of ISPs filtering content like this.

Could be off here but I thought TPBs excuse was that they were just a search engine specifically for torrents, or whatever they use now. The fact that most of these links point to copyrighted material is not their problem.

Its an excuse that doesn't really wash. I believe there was a case that put a duty on companies to ensure their services do not dacilitate IP infrignement and they should take action to remove stuff - might have been an eBay case.

True. I noticed the site redirects to .se recently.
