im pretty skinny, and need to put on a good few stone, doesnt help that Ive been ill recently and have lost about a stone, not good when your already a bean pole.

anyway, I have chrones, and cant eat egg so that puts a dampner on the cake an pies diet, and I find it really hard to put on weight, I can up my strength and stamina but I just dont get any bigger, perhaps a tiny bit, but I went from strugelling to bench 15kilo to being about to bench 50kilo, an that was at 8 stone, start and finish weight.

So Ive tryed protien shakes, primarly maximuscle cyclone, and it helped with the strength side but didnt put any weight on really.

for a while my health has been pretty damn st, so I havnt been able to walk about or move much and I have lost ALOT of muscle strength and stamina.

what sort of egg free foods can I eat to bulk up, and does anyone have some core exersises I can do to build myself up a bit, as thats where I am and have always been lacking.

Get instant oats from www.myprotein.com and combine 2 scoops of it in a shake with 1 scoop of Impact Whey Protein. 2 of those a day is 1000 calories and takes about 10 seconds to drink. Helping me to bulk up and I'm a hard gainer

A friend of mine has crohns so I do know a little of what you're up against.

Stop buying protein shakes (especially from from maximuscle). Total waste of money. Eat lots of the following foods:
-all manner of meat
-peanut butter
-drizzle olive oil on all vegetables/salads
-full fat dairy (providing you can)

Just take normal foods like mince with mashed potato, but make the mash with a huge chunk of butter. Tastes delicious and very calorific.

What do you mean by core exercises? Exercises for your core or exercises at the core of a training routine? Don't hire a PT unless they are very well recommended. Most don't know st. Generally speaking if they are not very strong/lean/muscular then they are not worth your time/money.

nono Mostly, they're not.
I'm sure there may be exceptions, IME but most 'lifestyle gym' PTs are more a danger than a help.

yeah I ment core exercises for my core, I have a bench with a couple of accesorys like a chest thingy and lat bar, but I could do with some other ideas with what to do.

the only PT i know that my sister uses is pretty built but I dont know how good he is tho, would rather work out at home as its free and I have a few weights and stuff, plus I can only really do upper body stuff atm.

I try an get alot of food down me but I was using the protien shakes for extra protien as I struggle to get a large amount eaten, but I will endeavor to eat more meat.

eat eat eat.

Good wholesome food. Every 3 hours. + a decent weight gainer/protein shake.

Concentrate on big compounds, Squats, Deadlifts, Clean and jerks, pull ups, bench etc.

Did i mention Squats and Deadlifts?

Dont overtrain, 3 times a week is enough.

Watch the mass pile on.

I have crohns aswell and in august last year i was 10st due to illness and I'm now 14st and back lifting heavy in the gym.. I eat alot of crap so I do have a bit of a gut. I eat a good breakfast, lunch and tea aswell as a couple of wholesome snacks throughout the day and maybe a snack in the evening.
You will struggle to eat alot to start with and gradually increasing what you eat is going to be the best way forward. Try and eat decent meals and not empty calories such as crisps etc(like me).

Try bench presses, squats, deadlifts and shoulder presses and try to do as heavy a weight as you can and keep pushing to increase. I currently do 4 sets of 8 reps but a good 5x5 set/rep is good to put on size.

I was always skinny as a teen until I really started eating properly and going to the gym.
If you want to know anything else or a chat about crohns you can always message me.

never really done deadlifts or squats before, think I might struggle with them as its pretty painfull for me to stand and do anything as I have fisstulars they were massive and I still have a big hole in my muscles down there.

might have to grin an bare it an take painkillers before I do them as my back is seriously lacking.

does anyone have back exercises, as I had a look at deadlifts online and they seem to do your back aswell as other muscles, but im looking for primarily lower and mid back.

edit: i pretty much know all there is to know about chrones aswell, cheers for the offer though.
was diagnosed when I was 14, now 25, so its been a while

Try 16 hour fasting. Supposed to be the best way to put on weight (though not neccessarly muscle).

Put on weight, by not eating?

Most retarded post ever. Intermittent fasting is great for body composition (including gaining muscle) but why would it suit someone severely underweight who struggles to eat enough?! The mind boggles.

My understanding was that you eat like a Horse for the 8 hours up untill bedtime and it slowed your metabolism down because of the 16 hours you didnt eat.

Sorry I'm such a retard.

It makes perfect sense to me. If he puts loads of fat on using this method, he can convert it straight in to muscle, job done.

Joking aside, my advise for the OP is that he should post on a more appropriate forum. Don't get me wrong, there are some knowledgeable peeps on here but it is a very small minority so most threads of this nature have posts that completely contradict each other and just spill out urban myths.

A quick search on the interweb should find a more appropriate resource for your needs. 'Most' of the moderators on the bigger sites sites are littered with a wealth of experience and I dare say you'd find somebody who has dealt with people in a similar position and health requirements that you have.

The science is sound. Fasting causes your metabolism to slow down as the body conserves energy. As a result if you fast for most of the day and then bulk just before bed the food will be more readily turned into fat.

Deadlifting, leg extensions and squats. A one-time body builder colleague claims that your body responds well to working the larger muscles in the body.

And you don't have to start out with big weights. Just start low, and gradually build confidence. And listen to your body.

I've had some back issues over the last few years, but I'm finding that rowing (keeping the back quite straight) and hyper-extensions (upper body raises) are doing wonders for the back - haven't had any unexpected twinges in quite a long time now.

Not true at all, your metabolism actually speeds up for the first couple of days of fasting fasting, and it only slows down a small amount after 72 hours.

Resting energy expenditure increased significantly from 3.97 +/- 0.9 kJ/min on day 1 to 4.53 +/- 0.9 kJ/min on day 3 (P < 0.05). The increase in resting energy expenditure was associated with an increase in the norepinephrine concentration from 1716. +/- 574 pmol/L on day 1 to 3728 +/- 1636 pmol/L on day 4 (P < 0.05). Serum glucose decreased from 4.9 +/- 0.5 to 3.5 +/- 0.5 mmol/L (P < 0.05), whereas insulin did not change significantly.
